Is my Baby a Freek ?

DD is 21 weeks old and I have realised today that I have not yet had to cut her toenails. Is this normal ? I have to cut her fingernails twice a week because they grow like mad.

Toenails do grow slower than fingernails.
And they grow slower in the winter.

luciemule · 10/02/2010 22:57

My son's (5) baby finger nails grow way faster than any other nail - nothing relevant to your question but I thought he was a bit freaky.

HaveToWearHeels · 10/02/2010 22:58

thanks wastingaway

DD is a year old and I have never cut her toe nails so no I don't think your baby is a freak

HaveToWearHeels · 10/02/2010 23:01

luciemule I have noticed by DD thumb nails grow quicker.

god! I misread that as 21 months

was going to say "sure she's not biting them off like my dd does used to do?"

HaveToWearHeels · 10/02/2010 23:15

PMSL @ 21 months
I hope she isn't chewing them, she shouldn't be taking solids for another month yet !

she's just got freaky toenails!!!!

Galena · 11/02/2010 09:14

You may find that little bits pull off in her socks - this happens to DD.

OhWhatNoooow · 11/02/2010 10:57

totally normal. i cut dd 11mo toenail once a month and fingernails once a week.

acebaby · 11/02/2010 13:49

my (unscientific and untested) theory is that their toes grow faster than their nails at this age

HaveToWearHeels · 11/02/2010 17:58

acebaby I love your theory makes total sense to me.

The babies in our NCT group range from 18 weeks to 14 weeks and we were only wondering this afternoon when we'd have to cut toe nails for the first time as none of us have had to do it yet.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/02/2010 20:56

I think I have only ever had to cut my ds1's little toenails once. He's 4.4!! Is that freeky?!

peanutpie · 11/02/2010 20:58

My son is 3 tomorrow. I have never cut his toenails or finger nails! I'm not being neglectful on purpose it's just that he has never seemed to need it. All his nails are short. Every now and again he asks me to pull off a bit of nail which is irritating him.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/02/2010 21:05

I haven't done my 7mo toenails yet!

These aren't freeky babies they are perfectly fine and dandy
