Baby not smiling yet

Hello,

I'm worried about my ds who is notyet smiling at 7 weeks. He looks interested and alert, follows my face but won't smile. I'm worried as I thought that by now he should be smiling at me. Anyone else had a late smiler and how old was your dc when they did smile?

I think 7 weeks is still well within normal - they check at 8 weeks ish so must be OK up till then, and I'd imagine if he still isn;t smiling then they'll just recheck in a week or two.
BTW I didn't realise your child doesn't actually have to smile at the doctor - I was worried as DS wouldn't smile to order but I think the check is just eye contact, facial expression iyswim

DS started around 8w and it felt late but he's fine (and has a great sense of humour at 2).

DS was close to 12 weeks before he smiled. Even then the smiles were few and far between. He had a bit of a rough start and didn't have that much to smile about though! He is now 15 months and laughs and smiles all day.

I think that being able to follow your face and looking interested is a great start and you may just have a serious little boy!
