16 month old - waking up every hour

My 16 month old has been waking up every hour for the last fortnight.

Room temp is fine.
He has had a horrible cold but over that.
He is teething and drools non-stop. He finds teething hard. At bedtime he gets Ashton & Parsons powders, gels and potions on his gums and even tried Calpol to try to keep him sleeping.

He's also crying in his sleep - little whimpers.

And I have resorted to bringing him to our bed at 4am so everyone gets some sleep.

Happy enough in the day......

A friend suggested he could be hungry (he's on cows milk and has a bottle at 7.00pm before bed).

Anyone been through similiar or any suggestions?

I would bank on it being the teeth.

My ds always gets like this before his teeth come through - around the time of his first teeth he was like it for months! (sorry).

The only other suggestion I have is that he might have an ear infection? Think it's quite common after a cold, and is more painful when lying down, so worse at night.

Perhaps take him to the nurse just to rule that out?
