Not crawling at 8.5 months

My dd is 8.5 months and nt moving yet. She rolls over (when she can be bothered) and is sitting unaided has been for couple of months. She weight bears well, loves standing but when put on her bum she is quite happy to sit there. On her front she wiggles bum and legs and trys to pull her arms but doesn't get the two in tango and gets peed off easily. A lot ofother babies her age are now on the move and still she sits. She is very happy, very smiley, says dada and nan nan and understands when I say 'comemama' for me to pick her up she throws her arms up for me to pick her up. I guess I am not used to this as my son was so quick with everything.....anyone else have baby this age not moving yet? X

Not got a baby this age, but a 14yo and 12yo, both crawled at 10 months, walked at 14/15 mo. Both strapping and healthy. Don't worry - your dd is not late to crawl.

Rhian82 · 08/02/2010 19:34

Yep - my DS didn't crawl until he was 11.5 months. However, he then pulled himself to standing for the first time the next day, started cruising a week later and was walking within a month!

A friend's DS who's the same age was crawling at six months, but he still wasn't walking by Christmas (when they were both 14 months). They just all do everything at their own pace.

SilveryMoon · 08/02/2010 19:36

Both my ds's started crawling at 10 months. Ds1 walked at 14 months and ds2 has this past week taken the odd step, he is 12 months.
Don't worry about it, they are all different and your dd will do it when she's ready

chocolaterabbit · 08/02/2010 19:37

My DD is now a hyperactive 2.6 yo who crawled at 11 months after sitting at 6mo. She walked on her own at 14 months. I think she was trying to walk and got a bit fed up after a while so crwled instead. Lots of babies don't crawl at all though so your DD might be one of them.

Make the most of it - you'll soon be knackered from chasing her!

Neither of mine ever crawled.

Both bum shuffled, walked at about 16 and 21 months.

Skegness · 08/02/2010 21:16

She sounds adorable.I remember quietly thinking that my twin babies were way ahead of their peers because they crawled earlyish and super fast but loads of said slowcoach peers then had the cheek to walk weeks before them. There really are wide variations of perfectly normal and children constantly leapfrog each other, ime.

allaboutme · 08/02/2010 21:18

DS1 crawled at 10 months and walked at 11 months. DS2 crawled at 11 months and walked at 16 months!

Most babies I have known aren't crawling at 8.5 months. My ds was nearly 10 months before he crawled but then he was walking by 11 months. Nothing to worry about I'm sure xx

RoseBlossoms · 08/02/2010 21:23

My ds didnt crawl bumshuffle or make any attempt to move his lazy bum until he was 16 months. now 23mths and i cant keep up with him!!

Worry not and be grateful shes not into everything!!

CharlieBoo · 08/02/2010 21:24

Ahh thank you ladies, it's just I am a worry wort and she is so different to how ds was but he was hard work and I always said I hope my next one will just sit there a bit longer! Got my wish lol! People just expect them to get to 7 months and be moving! Thank you soo much I will enjoy her sitting while it lasts xxx

ditto roseblossoms - although with us it was 17 months (when she did just about everything in one week). She didn't actually crawl until after she could walk. She walks miles and miles every day now at 25 months. Her choice, I hasten to add.

CMOTdibbler · 08/02/2010 21:27

My DS was cruising at 10 months, but didn't crawl until the week before he was 1, but just up and crawled at top speed when he did. Walked at 14 months and hasn't stopped since

TwinkleToes76 · 08/02/2010 21:39

Mine didn't ever crawl! She just wanted to be on her feet and walk around holding my hands - it was back breaking until she learnt to do it on her own at 10.5 months.

verybusyspider · 08/02/2010 22:48

I have ds's that didn't crawl by then too, ds3 is just 8 months and just got to grips with sitting, ds1 crawled (commando style, not even properly ) at 11.5 months, walked at 16 months
relax, they are all different, ds2 was crawling at 7 months and walked just before his first birthday

NoahAndTheWhale · 08/02/2010 23:09

DS crawled at 8.5 months and was amongst the first from his postnatal group.

DD moved around 10.5 months in a cross between a bottom shuffle and sticking leg out behind type of way.

They both walked at 15 months.

ascouser · 08/02/2010 23:16

DD2 has only just got the hang of it and she is 1 y.o. in two weeks...

don't rush it.. enjoy it

lilysmummy2007 · 09/02/2010 11:30

my dd didnt crawl till almost 12 months walked at around 17 months. i was worried till i read this www.chiroweb.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=40282.
there are loads more pages online that tells you that late walkers , crawlers and talkers tend to be smarter.

My DD never really bothered with crawling. She cruised the furniture from about 9 months and was walking at 10 months. Don't worry.

Kirbo · 09/02/2010 14:16

My DS skipped crawling, would just sit on his bum and be quite happy but then started walking at 10months!!

katie3677 · 09/02/2010 14:42

My DD only started crawling 3 weeks ago, and she is now 14 months! However in three weeks she has gone from sitting on her bum, to crawling, to standing and now cruising. So don't worry, she'll do it when she is good and ready and then there'll be no stopping her.
