Is it usual for a 13yr old boy to 'take it out' on his poor old mum?

Because atm DS#1 alternated between being really sweet and loving, and having a go at me. Most recent example was when he came into the kitchen while I was on the phone to my mother and yelled at me that I'd cut the bobble off his hat (It came off in the washing machine and I'd left it on the kitchen counter to sew back on). He was furious with me and really screamed at me. He apologised later of course but even so it upset me. This sort of thing happens all the time.

Now I can cope with it mostly if I know it's just 'a phase'. But is it? Is it normal?

poor you and poor him. who would be a pubescent boy, it must be horrific! just think of it as pmt and grit your teeth for a few years.
