DS (2.5) hates messy play and screams if his hands get dirty. Is this normal?! Might he grow out of it? And does it matter if he doesn't do messy play? I've only known chidlren to love playing with finger paints, shaving foam, jelly and do on...

yes it's fine.
my first was like this, he has never liked anything on his hands.

i can't say it has held him back in any respect tbh, and it's a bit nicer for me

that's true, yesterday - less mess to clean up!

My 9 year old has never liked it, either

he might like dry messy play - rice/lentils/pulses, sand, bowl of dry oats, to get some different sensory experiences

ds1 would also never walk barefoot on grass or sand! first time we took him to the park with a big sandpit he screamed and wouldn't put his feet down lol

he is 5 now and much better. he still doesn't really like his hands getting messy (won't eat chocolate biscuits for this reason lol) but he'll go in the sandpit and stuff ok

He does like dry play but I didn't feel that really presented the same sensory experiences. Better than nothing though, I guess!
