What can a typical 2.9 year old do?

Am filling in the forms for DLA for my dd who has learning disabilities. I have to say what help she needs over and above that of a normal child. Trouble is dd is our only child and most of her friends have disabilities too so no idea really what is 'normal' in some areas.

It would be really helpful to know whether a typical 2.9 year old could do the following:

wash themself
brush their teeth
put on or take off any item of clothing
get in or out of bed themself (and would they be in a bed or a cot still?)
would they pull their covers over themself if they were cold for e.g

yes to wash and brush teeth .. but only making a go at it not do it properly if you see what I mean

DS couldn't do clothes at that age

yes to get in and out of bed

yes to pull covers over himself

Hi my dd is 2.6mths.

She can wash her face with a flannel (may need direction to get the really mucky bits) she can wash her hands ( i squirt the soap) on she washes and rinses and then dries them on the towel.

she can dress and undress with the exception of buttons,zips and laces.

She has been in a bed since 15mths and can get in and out of it, yes can pull her covers over herself. Although when i go up to bed, i check on her and often she has kicked them off and so i put them back on. But if she woke feeling cold she is physically able to pull them up - (but she wouldn't do that she'd cry for me)

My advice for DLA is repeat yourself, at each section point out the obvious - e.g this is not the norm for another child of the same age who doesn't have learning difficulties.
Also gather as much evidence as you can, actually request professionals and maybe a close relative, to write a statement about our dd and send them off. Don't assume the DLA will contact all the people you give the details of on your form.
Photocopy everything before you post it!

OK - I'm also doing this from a remembering stage (DS1 is nearly 5yrs old, DS2 is 19 months old)

Wash himself - yes, with help
Brush teeth - only 'token' brushing
clothing - could do trousers and socks by then, and he could completely undress himself
Bed - yes - in a bed
Covers - yes

As a comparison for the 19 months old

Wash himself - no
Brush teeth - tries
Clothing - can take jackets, shoes, socks and t-shirts off (can't put any on yet- although 'almost' does his sandals).
Bed - still in a cot but 'tries' to get in and out
Covers - no.

ds1 is 3.6 years old, so a few months ago could:

wash himself - yes (in a half hearted kind of way!)
brush his teeth - kind of - certainly suck the toothpaste off his brush and chew the brush! He's good at his front teeth now, but rubbish with side teeth!
Dress himself- yes he can now, but that's a very recent thing - probably not at 2.9 - other than trousers and socks, which he's been able to do for ages.
Get in and out of bed - yes
Pull the covers over - yes

hitc, my ds2 is 2 and 2 months and can put on pyjamas, brush teeth (sort of...), take off all his clothes.
Wash himself, no, and he's still in a cot but could certainly get in and out of bed (for example ours!)
By 2.9 I wd say most children wd be in a bed.

My dd is 2.9 and she can:

wash hands but dryingg hit and miss
wash self in the bath with supervision
brush teeth with supervision
put on pants, t-shirt, skirts, sometimes trousers, shoes with velcro fastening
toilet trained in day time
still has cot (cotbed) so needs lifting in, but does own covers
feed herself using spoon and fork (mostly)

This is actually my 3rd time filling in the forms so I'm getting quite a pro at it .

Would still be useful to hear about a few other 2.9 year olds so that I have got a good pic of what is typical.

my ds 2.10

put on clothes(didnt know he could do t shirt till last night!)
clean teeth(wont let me do it )
go to toilet
wash hands
raid the fridge(and pour a drink!)
use fork spoon
get in out bed

My ds is 3, at 2.9 he could:

wash/dry hands with supervision
was in the bath with supervision
no to brushing teeth alone
yes to taking off socks, pants & trousers
no to taking off jumpers/t shirts
yes to getting in and out of bed
no to pulling his covers over him

my ds, 2.10:

can rub a flannel over himself in the bath, can wash his hands (but we squirt soap), rinse his hands
he can brush his teeth - but half hearted
he can pull down his pants/trousers, can't put anything on (or we never have time for him to try )
Yes, he can get in/out of bed and does
Yes, he would pull covers over himself, but I do check him before I go to bed and usually cover him.

DS1 turned 3 at the end of May. At 2.9 he could:

feed himself
give himself (and little brother) drinks - using straws, cups, glasses
undress himself - getting lost in t-shirts
put his shoes on - usually on the right feet
get out of a cot at 19 months, so a bed has been easy in comparison
follow instructions - fetching and carrying
play by himself for about quarter of an hour

He's been dry since then and asking to go to the toilet. Since he has turned 3, he now takes himself to the toilet .

There's quite a lot of variation it seems isn't there? Mine can't even get up and down stairs by herself but she is an expert at chopping up veg with a Sabatier knife in the kitchen.
