is this sleepwalking?

I think DS may have started sleepwalking. He's 3.7. For some time he's woken and got out of bed somewhere between 10 and midnight. If we're in bed, he comes through, climbs in and is asleep before his head hits the pillow. If not, he tends to do an about turn as you come onto the landing, and trot straight back into his room without speaking.

Tonight was a bit weirder - I heard him, went up, and he was on the landing. Turned round and went back into his room but started wandering around. Eyes open but I couldn't get any sensible response from him bar the odd 'yes' or 'no'. He sat on his bed but wouldn't lie down. Eventually I asked if he wanted his potty (just started night training) and got a 'yes'. Fetched potty, helped him sit on it, he did a huge wee and was back to sleep.

I have to say I was pretty thrown by it tonight - probably just because I have no history of doing it myself so it's not familiar. DH apparently was once found as a child earnestly peeing into his parents' bedside cabinet while fast asleep

Is this what kids do when they sleepwalk? I gather from googling that it's nothing serious but any tips for how best to handle it?

My dd1 does stuff like this. Only she tends to stand on the landing howling and crying, then just pops off back to bed and is asleep immediately. I just try to make sure she's safe, can't get down the stairs etc...and just get her back to bed.
