Crying when left with childminder

My friend's ds cries every time he is dropped off at the childminder (he is nearly 3). He is fine after she has gone but it is obviously very distressing for her each time it happens. It has been going on for nearly 2 years ! Anyone got any tips for breaking the habit so to speak ?

Sort of. My DS was fine initially but at age of 2 started to get very upset when I dropped him off and the manager suggested I bring him in every day for two weeks so he realised world was not going to end when mummy left. He was only doing two days a week so it was a long time in his little world between visits. It worked a treat for a while but then the crying returned so I tried a childminder instead and he's been much better since. There are still a few tears but only because he wants me to stay and play not because he doesn't want to be left if you see what I mean.

So that's my long way of saying that I think 2 year old boys go through a very clingy patch, a lots of my friends have had similar problems. Your friend needs to work out whether it's a seperation thing that would occur anyway, in which case try more short visits for a while if that's possible, or whether he'd actually be happier at another provider.
