Settling in at nursery

DD (nearly 12 months) went for first settling in session at nursery today. I stayed about 90 mins and she was fine. Left for an hour and when I got back she was sobbing. She'd only been crying about 10mins, but was quite upset.

So, please reassure me this is normal, to be expected and most importantly passes quickly!

I'm totally happy with the nursery, staff are lovely and all the other children are happy.

Please tell me this passes quickly!

Normal. Passed in a couple of days for us.

It is perfectly normal. Your DD is at the age where seperation anxiety peaks, so don't be alarmed if this happens for a while. It did with mine, who are now 3&5 and have had a really positive experience at nursery.

Having done 2 lots of settling, it's good to get in the flow and not hang around for too long after the first initial settling period as I think it can be counter-productive. The staff need to time to get to your baby. Think of it like pulling off a plaster, the quicker the handover, the easier it can be.

Agree re the hanging around - don't stay too long. It will be fine!

Totally normal - I know how you feel. DS (also 12 months) started nursery this week. We had to wait outside for an hour and I heard a cry for 10 mins then he settled down. Take heart. I went in to get him an hour later and he was stood at a walker waving a toy in the air having a great time.

We have another session today, this time for 2 hours so might not go so smoothly but the NNs were great and got us out of the room pretty quickly IYSWIM, and I think that definitely helped.
