My ds will be 2 on sunday and although he can feed himself with a fork and spoon rather well he wont.
Alot of the time uses his fingers for his food, but its even got to the stage now that to get him to eat something i have to put the food into his mouth for him using words of encouragment to get him to take it.

I know he is hungry as he asks for food and is interested when im cooking tea and cant wait to get in his seat at the table or highchair for breakfast and lunch, but once there seems un-interested in actually feeding himself.

Any experiences of the same, is this common at his age, how do i get round this. DS2 is due in 4weeks so really wanna try and sort this to make things alittle easier at meal times.

i'm trying to remember but I think my DD (now 4) was similar at this age. She was very independent then seemed to go through a babyish stage again. I thought that basically, as she was only young it didn't really matter if I fed her a bit and she used her fingers, she'd get there eventually.

She now eats fine with cutlery and sometimes still uses her fingers, but I've put that down to her seeing her 11mth old brother doing that and wanting some of the attention.
