Hey everybody, Was just looking advice as LO was diagnosed a few days ago with a dislocated hip (one leg shorter than the other and uneven skin folds)so cross as this took so long to get diagnosis as I took her to GP who told me she was fine. Specialist was lovely and great at explaining what would be happening (she's now booked in for a closed reduction on the 25th ) but I have other worries as I had noticed she was not meeting milestones (I have 2 other girls) but especially as she has a preference to use her right side will not use left hand to do anything and mostly keeps it closed in a tight fist. she is now being refered back to paediatrics as she was in neonatal after being born for a short while. Inn the meantime I'm taking her for an app with people (don't know the right name) about her developmental delays (this had been previously arranged)I'm scared what this may bring up as only getting head round that she's gonna be in a cast for 4months and a brace for 2 although I have been doing my own research and mild CP keeps coming up. has anybody any advice on anything esp what to expect while my baby gonna be in cast.

Hi Bella, I'm afraid I don't have any experience of exactly your situation but have you looked at the STEPS website - it's a charity dealing with children with lower limb conditions? My DD was diagnosed with DDH at 3 months. Fortunately I was very lucky and it was sorted out by 3 months in a pavlik harness. But the STEPS website was extremely helpful and there should be someone there who can offer advice. It's at . I hope things work out ok for you. I will keep my fingers crossed.

My nephew has clicky hips and had two sessions in plaster from his ankle up to his belly button 1st at 8 months for 12 weeks then again at 18 neather of which worked. He does have spina biffida and this makes him have no feeling in his legs so the consultant said to leave him be.

My friend also had clicky hips had the same plaster done when she was 4 now in her 20s is fine.

Hope all is ok

I don't have any experience of the hip issues but it sounds like you need to see an Occupational Therapist about her hand function. If she hasn't already been referred ask your health visitor to do one or you might be able to do it yourself. Hope the op goes ok.
