Fresh or dried? Cooled boiled water is the answer to most things.

Oh, I kept all the cords of my DCs. Am planning on planting trees or some other kind of plant with the cords in the roots.

I would dab a little rubbing alcohol on the 'stump' and let it dry. Alcohol will kill any germs on the area.

Don't use alcohol...it will sting the poor child!

Try iodine, just as good!

StealthPolarBear · 31/12/2009 07:33

just cooled boiled water as it heals. Would leave it alone as much as possible

Honestly, you don't need to be messing round with disinfectants. Just a gentle bath or water and pat it dry gently. The less you mess with it the better. If it looks nasty or gooey, then talk to your HV.

I threw it straight in the bin

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/12/2009 08:06

I kept my DD's. No idea what I'm going to do with it though!

pigletmania · 31/12/2009 11:37

i am a bit squemish and wanted rid of it asap,i washed her belly button with warm water and cotton wool

CarmenTinselPalmTreesSanDiego · 31/12/2009 12:33

I dried the placenta end of the cord. And the placenta. The placenta was encapsulated and the dried cord is in a little keepsake pouch on my windowsill!

okay so we put the cord on the tree.

The maternity nurses said to use an alcohol wipe but i thought it would sting too so just let it dry overnight- it looks fine it was just suddenly a bit gooey looking last night which we had a parental reaction to.

thanks

I thought putting it on the tree was a fab idea. Wish I'd thought of it...
