Weird question I know but!
We have a 3yr old son and obviously he refers to his bits as his willy but we now have a baby daughter too.
What is the concensus as to acceptable words for girl's bits???

my mum used to call it a 'sarah',which is weird now that my best friend is called sarah,i always associate her name with my bits!!my daughter calls hers 'her bits' and my sons is 'his willy'.

PeachyClair · 30/06/2005 10:18

I was one of three girls, Mum used to call it our 'twinkle'. As any of you born in the 70's know, Twinkle was a popular girls comic. Odd choice.

My boys call theirs their wee wee, although i try to use bits as it's less kiddyish at school. I think bits is fine!

ScrewballMuppet · 30/06/2005 10:28

LOL @this thread

when I was little i used tigly and my dad refers this to boys bits too Not sure why either.

My ds's I say tails for their bits my dh says willies which they are but I hate.

If I had a girl am not sure what would use the first word that comes to mind is a fous fous, not sure why.

Be careful though MNers! As part of sex-ed, in my school (as a child) and also in many of the schools i've taught at, students are encouraged to share the pet names they have been taught to call their 'bits'. I remember going home and saying to my mum 'guess what simon's mum taught him to call his willy?'

goreousgirl · 01/07/2005 00:12

Dute!

goreousgirl · 01/07/2005 00:15

Hey - here's a thought... what about Vagina or cli-to-is (from Shirley Valentine)....

vwvic · 01/07/2005 00:16

The general term for genitalia in our house is supposed to be"special bits". However, thanks to dh's influence, the girls call a willy a willy, and theirs puss lips! I cannot for the life of me get them to change words.

goreousgirl · 01/07/2005 00:18

Oops should have been Cli-tor-is (bit tiddly)

lunachic · 01/07/2005 00:19

Bouj · 01/07/2005 01:35

Only have a ds at the moment, so not an issue. Friend of mine has taught her daughter to say 'frilly' as in boys have a willy girls have a frilly! Thought it made it sound quite pretty!! DH and his brother used to say widdlerwoo for their bits. still makes me giggle when he says it in all seriousness!!

Flum · 01/07/2005 01:40

Noo Noo.

Pisces · 01/07/2005 01:46

What a laugh! We call "it" a front bottom - might be old fashioned and twee, but it works!!

Flum · 01/07/2005 01:46

Muffy sounds great though

Tortington · 01/07/2005 01:55

it was tuppence when i was a kid

we use penis and vagina. best to be straight about these things. i realise vagina doesn't cover the whole lot - but it did the trick for us.

that way theres no silly giggling when they are 8 when someone says "penis!"

Skribble · 01/07/2005 02:20

I always think penis and vagina sound a bit graphic, I remember a Mum waving off her DS into nursery and shouting " remember to dry your penis when you go to the toilet" gringe!

I do agree that vague names don't help, I have worked with kids who use allsorts of strange names and I haven't had a clue what they are talking about. It needs to be fairly obvious.

Caththerese1973 · 06/07/2005 08:29

I have a hippie friend who is a committed feminist and she actually taught her dd to say the C word! But upon realising how socially unacceptable this is for most people, she modified this and settled for 'yoni' (I think that's the hindu word). My own dd just says 'front bottom', which is a bit euphemistic. I don't think little girls should be ashamed of their bits - they deserve a nice word too (little boys of course have many cute names for their 'front bottom). My friend's dd says 'woo-woo' - I thought this was cute and encouraged my dd to use it too, but she has settled for 'front bottom' on her own.

lynnej · 06/07/2005 20:20

We call them "tuppies" for girls and "pee pee" for boys.

I thought that was what everyone said?!!! Ha ha

Lizita · 07/07/2005 02:17

omg i can't believe you all! Why do we have to start calling them by silly cute names??? i am actually quite wound up for the sake of womankind at this thread, like we've been programmed to feel uncomfortable with our "bits". what the hell is wrong with penis (I don't mind willy) or vagina? Why are they too sophisticated words for children?
