I have been on about this before and am hoping I can once again pick some brains. My 3 year old ds refuses to sit on the potty or toilet for a poo I havr brought various different types of pottys and seats, tried rewards, star charts everything! He knows he needs a poo just insists its ok to do it in his pants has been dry day and night for a year. He starts state nursery in September and I am really anxious to sort this out before then. HELP.

my 4 year old was doing this and I reminded him at the same time each night that he needed to do a poo. Then make a big fuss about how good he was it did go on for ages he too insisted it was o.k to do it in his pants it didn't matter he would say never mind. One thing though he never once done it at school and I think that is normal it's as if they do it for your eyes only.It is a worrie I know hope this makes you feel your not the only one and it wont last forever.

Thanks, have actually spoken to my doctor about my ds problem and have been presribed lactulose as I thought constipation may be the source. He has been taking it for almost a month now I also only give it to him when he has not done a poo.
As of yet it hasn't really changed the situation other than he does not call me to be with him while he poo's any more so will sometimes just come and tell me he has done it.At least it's a start!

My son also used to poo his pants until he was 3yrs old.I thought he would never grow out of it, but he did.
What stopped him?.Well he used to only ever do it at home, but one day he did it at pre-school,and wet his self at the same time. His shoes and socks got wet,so at play time he could not go out to the playground as his shoes were still wet.He had to stay inside with a teacher-hence..he never did it again.
Don't worry,i know it is hard to see light at the end of the tunnel, but he will grow out of it,i am sure.
