my 22 month old dd has a habbit of slapping her 4 month old sister. i have tried telling her off, not telling her off and giving baby attention and ignoring it all together but she still does it. she has told santa that she will not do it anymore but has continued. i am getting a bit worried about it. is this normal behavour and has anyone enlse experianced this.

I have just posted about my 22 month old and his hitting phase and my reactions. It is totally normal, many of my friends DCs are doing the same thing. Just be consistant, but I'm starting to think that 22 months is too young for them to fully understand what they are doing.

it's very normal, most children go through phases of hitting/biting/pushing... they really have no impulse control and she has no idea what telling santa she won't do it actually means!

when ds2 hits the baby i just take his hand and say "no hitting, gentle" and then stroke the baby
he usually copies me and the hitting has become virtually non-existant

Just move her away or move the baby away. Well, they're both babies really, aren't they?

It's normal. I'd like to tell you that she'll grow out of it but what'll actually happen is that when they're older they'll beat the crap out of each other.

thanks for the advise, its hard to remember tha she is only a baby herself

lol heqet ain't that the truth

i should mention that while i do the "gentle gentle" thing between the 2yr old and the baby, the 2yr old and the 5 yr old are left to it lol

oh yes!

pud - there's 15 months between mine. before ds2 was born ds1 looked like a tiny thing, but when I brought ds2 back and saw them together - WOW!! it is hard, you see this tiny baby but remember that this other little person is still counting their age in months!
