waking during naps

My DS is a bad sleeper - often wakes during night doesn't like going to bef etc - hes 16 mths. I have more or less cracked his night sleeping by gradual withdrawal and now he can settle himself at night.

However he has a bad habit of waking in his nap - sometimes after half an hour, other times after 45 minutes or an hour. He will go back to sleep (sleeps for about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs total - hes a bit unpredictable).

Has anbody got any ideas about how to get him out of this. he didnt used to do it but he did it once, screamed so I went in to him and he has cottoned on to the fact that I will.

I am now just sitting in the room and he does go back to sleep but he cries quite a bit. Problem is my DD is downstairs bitterly resenting her 'special time'being intruded upon.

ANy ideas?

Are you talking about an afternoon nap? From the time of your post, I'm not sure. He'll sleep for as long as he needs, and at 16 mo he'll need less daytime sleep. Can you make more time for your DD in the evenings? Do you have a DH/DP around?
