Helping 7 yr old DS to sleep....

Just posting in a vaguely hopeful way

My DS has always found it very hard to drop off.

I think we've tried everything, but I wonder if anyone out there has successfully encouraged a kid who naturally seems to drop off at 9.30pm, to drop off alot earlier?

I've never managed to make DS2 go to sleep earlier than he does (he also is often awake at 9.30/10) but I've managed to make myself stop worrying about it so much

I figure even if he's lying there awake, it's still restful, and he's getting up for school with minimal prompting so is getting enough sleep. Is your DS OK during the day? Does he need more sleep or is it just that you think he should have more?

I think it might be just that I think he should have more......

He usually wakes at 7, sometimes sleeps in till 7.30 at the latest. I rarely have to wake him, usually he wakes naturally......I suppose this is telling it's own story, maybe he is having what he needs. I do worry that he isn't getting enough sleep but perhaps that is my assumption? I worry that he will not be getting enough hours for all the growing/brain development that he needs to reach his potential. But he's rarely ill....

serenity maybe I just need to stop worrying

You may have sorted me out in one quick post!

Happy to help. I have to say DS2 sleeps far less than either DS1 or DD, but seems OK with it. I rarely have have more than 6 or 7 hours sleep - 8 at weekends (I can't sleep before 12 or 1am, and it takes me a good hour to 'unwind' enough to fall asleep) he must just take after me!
