Is it possible for a 7.5mo old to be having tantrums ALREADY???

Please help!

In the last few days DD (7.5 months) has been screeching like a banshee, for no apparent reason that I can see... she is not properly crying, no tears as such, but is getting red-faced and out of breath with the force of her wailing! It comes on when she's trying to fall asleep - day and night - she will be almost out then -BAM- starts to howl. I've tried teething gel, Calpol, cuddles, rocking - she will only go back to sleep after she's calmed down and had a little BF. Until she starts again...
I don't think she's hungry, she's BLW and is on three meals plus snacks as well as at least 8 BFs a day (that's another story for the Sleep section!!) so I don't know what it could be!

Any suggestions? We're getting desperate! She was up 9 times last night... Thanks.

Definitely not tantrums, she is just a baby.

Trapped wind?

Have you seen a midwife or health visitor?

Lulumama · 10/12/2009 16:40

no, it's not a tantrum

sounds like an overtired/over stimulated baby

is there anything that calms her down?

she might be over stimulated or windy and therefore can't settle

Mine were both like that at around 6 to 9 months. In retrospect it coincided with weaning and I put it down to the change of diet and wind. A very difficult phase but probably just that, a phase.

It is only in the evening or all naps? What time does she usually eat and sleep?

Kitty I found the 5-8.5 month period very difficult with DS - something always seemed to be making him frustrated and unhappy. Colds, teething, not being able to crawl/walk/run/talk/everything yet. He got a lot better a couple of weeks back when he started being able to move about more.

Sorry, don't think that helps you much, but wanted to reassure you that it will probably pass quite soon if it's a developmental thing.

It dont sound like a temper tantrum more frustration/teething. Frustration is quite bad for them around that age. I remember it well. They can have tantrums early believe me but at that age frustration is a big problem. Its like they are mentally ahead of themselves then they are physically. You could imagine wanting to get about and do things but physically unable too and cant communicate ur upsets. My dd calmed down once she hit 14 mos..before that she was a nightmare lol but now she is much happier and chilled.

Definitely think she is over -tired.
