DS has throat infection and not eating

DS has a throat infection and ulcers in his mouth and down his throat, he obviously doesn't want to eat anything or drink, I am managing to coax him into drinking just enough to avoid being dehydrated i think. But he is starving and desperate to eat something, I have tried everything from ice cream to mashed up weetabix and everytime it touches his mouth he screams in pain and then gets more and more upset as he can't eat and really wants to. It has now been about 5 days of totally minimal food intake, yesterday all he had was a some porridge. How long do you think he can go with no food and has anyone else been in this position?

Poor DS. Presumably you've seen the doctor and he is on antibiotics of some kind to speed recovery up. I sympathise with you, it must be awful. Anything you can get down him is a bonus. If all he eats for a couple of days is porridge, that should be okay. Have you tried yoghurt, baked beans, mashed potato? (sorry, just trying to think of anything reasonably soft).

I'm sure someone will come along with more experience to help you.

When DS had hand foot and mouth with lots of ulcers in his mouth the only thing he would eat was brocolli and carrots (cooked)

It seemed to be the only things which didnt sting his mouth ...... however - he was quite windy afterwards !

Hope he gets better soon.
