What is acceptable rough and tumble?

My DS's best friend is bigger than him and has always treated my DS quite roughly by play fighting, getting into scraps with him or just over-hugging him.

Today my DS has come back from his friends house with about 6 bruises on his legs, a bump to his head and a story about being trapped in a sleeping bag and having to beg to be let out because he couldn't breathe. In my DS's words it was "50/50 that he was going to live or die"!

I'm not happy with him getting roughed up like this but don't want to make a big fuss with his mum if this is normal for boys (age 9). Any ideas?

This is not normal. Make a fuss.

Take your lead off your son, if he's regularly not comfortable, then maybe have a word or distance the friendship
