Or are they just mirroring your face?

I would like to know this too, mind you 18wk old DD usually smiles at me first(am quite a grump in the morning) but that first gummy grin of the day never fails to sort me out. Also she smiles at non-smiling people when we are out and about so am thinking they are happy.
How old is your baby?

If their eyes look happy too, they're happy!
I remember DD having merry eyes from 3 months old.

Only a month. I like to thinks he's smiling because he's happy!

Of course he's smiling because he's happy! Wouldn't you be happy with a clean bottom and warm arms to snuggle into and delicious milk on demand?

What's not to be happy about!!

Babies are cute when they do that gummy smile. Seems like they're trying to be funny.
