Hello, My one-year old DS used to love his bath, but suddenly HATES it! He grips the side and screams as soon as his feet hit the water. Tried to distract him with toys, to get in with him...nothing seems to work. Is this just a phase?

It was for us! Can't remember how long DD was like this or even what stopped it, so possibly no help to you! Do remember giving her new "toys" in the bath which did distract her enough for us to wash her down without screaming. A simple plastic jug and some beakers was a good toy DD then did last the next 6/9months of having a bath but refusing to sit down in it. Now age 3 she loves her baths, even swimming in it! So hang on in there

My one year old is the same . She visibly shakes at the sound of the bath running. Hope it is a phase!

She is a little better if I get in with her, but she mostly just clings to me and sobs

This lasted about 3 months with DS. He also hated going swimming so we had to stop for a while. Now he loves both again. Toddler things sent to try us.

My DD did the same, a toy watering can and a few trips to the pool seemed to help but she was hysterical. Settled down after a couple of weeks and now mostly loves her bath.

Hope your little one settles soon as its a struggle to get them clean when they're trying to climb out!

Same with my DD - lasted about 6 months, plastic jug and plastic tea cup worked for us too.

Yes, it seems to be quite a common phase. My dd went through it at 23 months, she suddenly became hysterical at the sight of the water in the bath, so for a while I just washed her standing up next to it, and didn't push it. After a couple of months I tried again, and although initially she clung a bit, she tentatively sat down and was then back to being fine again, and has been ever since. Some of those toys that stick to the sides of the bath helped. Funnily enough she still loved going swimming during that time!
