2yr old moving into big boy bed - does he need a pillow?

Advice please ladies.

DS is 2.3 and currently in a cot bed (with the sides off, so a bed more than a cot) and in a couple of weeks we're intending to move him into a new bedroom and a new 'big boy's bed i.e. a proper full sized single bed, as DS2 is due in 4 months.

The issue of moving him into a new bedroom etc. is probably one for another day / thread, but for now I'm wondering, lots of people / books say that 2 yrs is old enough to have a pillow, but does he actually NEED one?

He currently doesn't have a pillow, and often sleeps on his front (bottom in the air) so is better off without one. I feel that a proper normal adult sized pillow would be huge compared to him - so does he need one? Or can you get toddler sized flattish pillows? And if so, where do I get one?

Thanks in advance!

My DS is 2 (yesterday!) and everytime we have tried him with a flat pillow, he has refused it! Throwing a full on tantrum and throwing it off the bed!

If he is happy without, stay without. We only gave the girls pillows once we found them using their cuddly toys as a pillow! (about 3yrs i think!)

ds had a pillow on his bed but it stayed on the floor every night until he was 3.5 and suddenly decided he wanted to use it!

Both my DDs (now 5 and 4) used a thin, machine washable, synthetic fibre, cot sized pillow from Ikea when they moved into their big girl beds (aged 2.3 and 2.8) More often than not I would find it squashed to one side of the bed or on the floor at first, but they got used to it pretty quickly.

Thanks - he's got a lion shaped cushion which he loves so will maybe just let him have that in the bed and if / when he starts using it as a pillow I'll get him a proper one. That Ikea one sounds worth a look, pomme.

Good ideas all round, much obliged!
