just a little concerned really, i have noticed my 7 month old baby doesnt babble at all. he squeels, laughs and makes some other noises but nothing like bababa/dadada etc am i right to be concerned? he is quite advanced physically has been sitting up from 5 months, crawling, pulling himself up etc and he does react to us so definatly no problems hearing. he is a very irritable baby tho and needs constant attention or will screach really loudly so not sure is related or not??? just a little worried so would like some advice

Don't worry, mine was the same, had a spell of mamama at around six months, then nothing, than started babbling properly at around 8 mo. Your baby seems totally fine, mine didn't start crawling til 8 mo. Sometimes they master the physical stuff first iyswim.
They give you so many milestones, it's really easy to worry. It seemed that babies HAVE to razzle by 4 or 5 mo, mine started at 8 mo, but could clap her hands by 5.
They're all different!

ds didnt babble until 9 months, was talking at 1 and in sentences by 18m and now at 3 is a rigth chatterbox. dont worry. x

waitingforbedtime · 29/11/2009 19:37

PS ds walked at 10 months, they say you get a walker or a talker!!

maxpower · 29/11/2009 19:38

my manager says she didn't say a word until she was 2 - then started talking in full sentences!

AnnetteTwitcher · 29/11/2009 21:35

My DS is the same - 8 months old tomorrow and only just started razzing. Lots of vowel sounds and general noise but no baba/dada.

But he's spent the day climbing all over the place and standing up

I was worried but figured he was too busy doing other things!

Chaotica · 30/11/2009 12:51

DD started babbling at 12m (talked by 14m), while I didn't say anything until past 2 (then talked in full sentences - and I'm not Maxpower's manager!).

Gingerbics · 01/12/2009 11:11

Your GP or HV will prob do a 8month review so you may find by then that he may be babbling away. If not, they'll probably keep an eye and maybe refer for hearing screening if still not babbling in a couple of months.

Alot of babies seem to start babbling a bit later then there's no stopping them!

mum2zak · 01/12/2009 20:56

thanks for all your advice. i think he is definatly a walker more than a talker..lol. im sure there is nothing to worry about but when others mention it too it gets you thinking all sorts. thanks again for putting my mind at rest.

I know this is a very old post and your "baby" is now 14 years old! I hope you and your child are both doing well. I have a 7.5 months old and I have the same issue as you. My baby stands up on his own, crawled at 6.5 months and now is super quick. But he doesn't babble at all. The paediatrician did a hearing test to him a while ago because I told her he is not crying almost at all and she assumed it might be hearing problem. But she said his hearing is perfect. Instead of making sounds opening his mouth he is "nagging" with his mouth closed, if that makes sense. If you could give an update as to how your child turned up, that would be useful. Thank you so much!

Hi! Baby is now almost 15 months old. He doesn't say words, not even dad or mom but he now babbles. He seems to be behind in this but I'm hoping it will come with time. His eye contact is excellent and he's very intelligent as he's solving lots of puzzles appropriate for his age. It's just he's not a chatty baby. The paediatrician said she is happy with his development so far and only if he hasn't talked till he's 2 years old will she be concerned. How's your little one?

Hi,

Thank you. So is it only the babbling that was concerning you at 7/8 months?

id say he babbles and makes noises but not a great deal a few weeks ago he was screaming and blowing raspberry but has gotten a lot quieter but a lot more fidgety as in when he’s sitting up his arms/legs are moving 😭

Reemfayad30 · 16/07/2024 20:52

My baby is 7 months old and she still doesn't babble however she coos and grunts and does the raspberry blows all day long. Should I worry about this

Lilipa · 03/09/2024 17:22

@Reemfayad30 I wouldn't worry. See my comments in this thread. Our baby was not babbling for at least a year. At 15 months he was finally bubbling and now, almost 19 months, he finally speaks words. He actually says more than 20 words! Every baby is different. I was very concerned of the fact that he wasn't babbling or making any noises really for a year! But you need to look at your baby's total development and not just communication. Best to advise a paediatrician as well. Ours always told us that they had no concerns.

Mumof3bb1 · 03/09/2024 21:02

@Lilipa thanks for the update, that’s amazing!!

do you remember when your DS pointed, clapped or waved??
