Baby Development Books

Can anyone recommend any good books on baby development? My DD is 10 weeks old now, but I'd like some help on what I can do with her to help stimulate her going forward. We sing a lot and she likes playing with toys, but I have no idea what she might be capable of doing.

I'm not looking for anything with rigid milestones (i.e. by 2 months your child should be writing a novel..) just want to know if I'm doing something that she can see or hear and wont be trying too hard.

Although if it can get her to do some ironing soon it would be more than welcome

Hi Chipsticksmammy I have to say I found the information on websites as good as any books. If you register with www.babycentre.co.uk they will send you an email every week about what you might expect in terms of development and will suggest a couple of games you can play with your LO.

Hi there - the two I have constantly referred to are

Your Baby Week by Week (they change so much in the early days that the month by month books don't really help)- goes up to week 24, but then stops on the basis that after 6 months there are so many variables between what babies can do at a particular age, a week by week account isn't possible. I wouldn't say it was a waste to buy this at week 10, though. I found it really helpful, although, with DD now 21 weeks am finding it less useful.

and

The Wonder Weeks (which tells you about developmental spurts (like growth spurts, but mental, not physical), when they happen, what new skills emerge, what games to play with them to help them along. This one goes up to a year old, I think, maybe a little more.

Both available on Amazon. The second one in particular is fascinating.
