Pressie ideas for 4 yr old boy please!

Looking for some inspiration for xmas and birthday pressies for my DS.
He is 4 just after Xmas so two lots to buy!
The problem is that he doesn't really play with toys - not interested in cars, trains, lego or any sort of focused (or solo) play so it leaves me a bit short of ideas because i don't want more things that are going to gather dust and fill the house. I have tried in vain to get him interested in what I perceive to be "normal" toys typical of his age but this year I am just going to try and find something that suits him better - but what??!!
He loves music but I don't think there is anything left along those lines and he is quite outdoorsy but obviously it is mid winter when he gets his pressies...
I feel as though I am up against it!
He likes imaginary play and following me around!
Anyone got any bright ideas to inspire me? My only one so far is a microphone.
Thanks.
Whiz

How about some binoculars or a telescope?

My sons can play with binoculars for ages and one has asked for a telescope for Christmas.

also got a ds who's having a telescope for christmas

both of my boys (then 4 & 7) got ELC guitars last xmas, dd (4 in a fortnight) is having one for this years christmas like this!

Happy land [also elc] is also a great hit in our house, tons of scope for imaginary play and all the things like houses, farm, fire station and stuff have working doorbells, flushing loos, fire alarms etc

oh, the other thing that ds1, who sounds a lot like your ds, likes- is his roller skates, skateboard and ramp - all toys r us. he's pretty cr@p at the skateboard but loves it anyway

Have you asked him what he would like? my ds is also 4 and has surprised us when we asked what he would put in his list to Santa (mostly toys though which wouldn't help you I guess). We bought ds a Kidizoom camera for his 4th birthday which he loves and has used loads. Other suggestions - personalised books (we have ordered ds a Spiderman one), pyjamas, binoculars, torch/nightlight, space hopper, scooter. Hope these help!!
