Title says it all really, DS whinges and whines all the bloody time. Everything he says is in a whiny horrible voice that makes me want to clout him one (I hasten to add that I don't). He is also rude, cheeky and answers back.

Is it a phase? Should I just give up and pack my bags and leave now?? Or perhaps pack DSs bags lol

Anyone found anything that works well to get their children to stop this because I am going NUTS!!!

calms down slightly

Thank you!

Could he be tired? My ds is much more whiny when he is tired. I've started putting him to bed before 6.30 and he has cheered up considerably. I tried for about a year saying 'speak in a normal voice' 'I can't understand you if you use that voice' but that didn't really work.

No he's not tired, he gets a good 12 hours sleep a night!

I do say to him 'use the big boy voice please' and that sometimes works but not very often.

He's just come over to me and said 'I think i'll change my ways' lol

Do you think your ds knows when he is whingeing and whining? Or is he simply now old enough to express independent thoughts and opinions?

I have a friend who does a daily 'gratitude book' with her dd. At some point during each day, the friend and her dd think of and write down (in the notebook) 3 things they are grateful for.

Initially I thought it was a bit , but she says it really has helped change their daily focus. After all, it is human nature to complain, but not nearly so natural to spend time/energy consciously thinking about what is good in our lives.

Maybe worth a try with your ds?
