Should we buy ds present?................

once our 2nd is born.
Our ds will be 20months old when 2nd is born, and so far doesnt understand it at all (as expected). Whenever we mention hes going to be a big brother, he just laughs!!
Is it still worth buying our ds something off the 2nd? And how jealous have yours been with this sort of age gap?

watching with interest as jess will be 15 months when new baby comes and im concerned about all the pressies for new baby and nothing for her.

i wa thinknig a long the lines of a doll or something for jess - something she can play with while everyone is admiring the new arrival?! I dunno.... we will see when the time comes i suppose!

Nope, didn't buy a present for ds1 - he was 19 months when ds2 arrived.

Ds1 and ds2 didn't get anything when ds3 arrived - ds2 was 21 months, ds1 was 3.5

No jealousy, they just got on with it totally unphased.

Didn't get one for dd1 when dd2 was born, she was 17 months at the time. She kind of understood what was going on, but not the impact it would have.

I'll never forget dh bringing her to the hospital for the first time - she just sat on the bed with eyes like saucers delightedly saying "Baby! ... Baby! .... Baby!" It was present enough for her!

It may be an idea if you think there may be a jealousy problem, but unless he expects or is used to getting a lot of presents I would say it's not necessary.

I bought some toy cars for DS1 (20 months) that were in my hospital bag so he had something to play with when he came to see his brother. He was more interested in the cars!

I found it very useful to have new toys to bring out for DS after DD was born... to distract him when I couldn't play with him because i had to take care of new baby sis. 23 month gap...

My ds was 20 mths when i had my dd we bought him a buggy and doll from his new sister.My son was never jealous and still is not he is nearly 8 and shes 6.I found i treated them both the same they were both babies and he loved his baby sister.Also when friends came to see baby they gave my son a small pressie even if it was sweets!.Another way to make sure they dont get jealous is when quests come, for them to give your son a little attention first so he does not feel left out.

there is just over 20 months between mine. They all seemed to understand their was a baby in mummies tummy. There wasnt really any jelousy, but I tried to put the older one first. A baby can wait a little!! Make sure they have all they need before you sit down to feed.Involve them in as much as you can both before and after the birth. Try not to worry

think the best thing you could buy him is a baby doll of his own for when the new baby comes so he can mimic mummy and daddy .. he may only play with it a short while but its a good diversion

as the others have said visitors often come with something for the others as well and talk to the biggies before the baby

try relax with him too around new baby he cant really hurt it!! My dd was 21months when ds3 was born she used to change his naooies etc!! I would walk out of the room and come back in to find him undressed...not at new born though but a couple of months. But they always helped with bathtime etc. ds4 and 5 shared a bath very soon too

I would buy him a small gift, say its from his new bay and he will feel so special and not put out by all the attention his new baby is getting, as he is a special big brother now!!!!!!

We done this with our son( he was 26 monthswhen twins came along) still now if we are at the shops he always remembers a sweet for his baby brothers and tell everyone about the present- he is now3.5 and twins 17 months so it left its mark with him-thankfully a very good one

as small gift would be nice! I used to know someone who bought a small gift for her children on siblings birthdays..is it just me or is that ott?! I think its nice that we all have our special day

I brought the dd's something off ds when i had him.

Dd2 had a looby lou doll and Dd1 a ballerina.
