Stoopid question about toddlers and pillows

Right - real duffers question this one, so feel free to let rip!

DD1 (2.2) asked for the chair cushion to go into her cot with her last night, and she seemed to sleep fine with it in, so its stayed in for her nap today as well. I figure its probably time to get her a proper pillow (I guess thats how it happens - they just ask for one one day?). But - is there a toddler size/cot size pillow I should use, or can I just give her a (thin) normal one?

Told you it was stupid!

Thin normal one is fine (and cheaper) but we have this one from Ikea. Its smaller than normal ones. (too small for the pillow cases in the cot-bed set, grr)

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 13/11/2009 13:22

sorry, didn't mean to grrr at you

Don't worry - I've been inside with 2 kids all morning whilst it pours down outside, being grrr'd at is the least of my worries!

I'm obviously being very stupid today, as have just googled cot bed pillow and even amazon sell them! Do I really need to get a special size though?

nah, just use a thin, normal sized one. Cheaper for pillow cases

anothercoldcupoftea · 13/11/2009 13:32

okey dokey, thanks very much, will try to dig one out from somewhere

I just gave DD one off our bed when she was about 13m, I had forgotten they are allowed them after 1yo and some friends said their kids slept better with one so I gave it a go.

She seemed to sleep a bit better with it, took her a while to start sleeping with her head on it though.

My 21 month old has just started insisting on a pillow in his cot with him. We gave him ours for a few days and then thought it was time to give him his own. Went to John Lewis, bought him his lovely very own pillow and pillow case.

That night he rejected his new pillow, insisted on daddy's and has had it since. Guess it must be the smell of mummy/daddy. Daddy now sleeps with new pillow, complete with numbers and stars. He likes it. And DS sleeps better with daddy's smelly pillow and we spend less time with said DS in between us, somehow taking up 2/3rds of the bed. Hooray.

DD has a toddler pillow, but only because it was on special offer at the time.

She starts off on it. And generally ends up sleeping sideways or the other way in bed, not using the pillow. It is more to look pretty on the bed!

Thank you for asking the (not) silly question. I have been meaning to ask too as I couldn't remember when we could give DC pillows. DS is 16months and he might benefit from one. I might just sleep with the pillow tonight for the smell
