Tips for dealing with 20 month old, tantrums and hitting

Just wondered how you have dealt with things like this?

DS has gone from chilled out placid little loveliness to a bloody nightmare at times! (DD wasn't like this but was a handful around later). DS has got worse over the last few weeks.

I know he can't talk much so frustration is a lot of it, but I just wondered what people do when they have an 'episode'?

I've tried ignoring him while he freaks out, distracting with other toys, removing him (then get battered myself), shouting (i know totally pointless but i just can't help it sometimes). He's not stupid and knows what he's doing, and can follow simple instructions, just chooses not too!

Have never done naughty steps/time out as DD just wasn;t like this so never saw the need. Is DS too young for this?

I'm really beginning to dislike my days with DS . He's often up in the night (still) and I'm just knackered too (and pregnant!)

Anyway - any tips would be great....and I do keep deep breathing chanting 'it's just a phase'

I posted something similar a couple of months ago (DS is almost 2 now) and got several recommendations for Toddler Taming

It does help you see their frustrations in a different light, certainly helped me.

I will try and find the thread...

Wow - Much further back than I remember (god it goes quick) but might help?

Thank you for a quick response - will have a read when DS stops screaming and goes for nap!
