DD refusing to join in - WWYD?

DD aged 3, has been pestering to start dancing lessons for a while. I managed to get her into a local class, where she knows some of the other girls. The first couple of sessions, she got really upset and spent most of the time watching. The next couple, she would only join in if the teacher gave her attention and held her hand. Today, she once again refused to join in and was given the option of doing so or we would go home - she wouldn't so i carried out my threat and we came home.
I must point out that each time, I have asked DD if she wants to go and she says she does - I've told her I don't mind if she doesn't want to do it, but she cries and says she does.

Do I carry on trying or stop taking her? WWYD?

My DD did this when she was about 6, said she wanted to do ballet but when we got to the class got really clingy and wouldn't join in. I worked out eventually that she just wasn't a 'joiner' as such and we didn't go back (luckily got gear off Freecycle so I hadn't shelled out huge amounts of money!) She now does art club after school one day a week and that's all she's interested in. I wouldn't push it, just wait until she's ready. HTH

DS2 aged 2.5 was the same at a music class, we had to sit on the chairs on the side not in the circle with everyone else. He did not touch a musical instrument or join in for over 5 classses!

Cut to six months later and he was right in their jamming with them all, he then got bored and use to sling the musical instruments about and laugh so we left to go to TumbleTots¬

thanks. I've paid up till Christmas. When I told her we didn't need to go back, she creid. I can't win!
Neon, I think you're right, I don't have a 'joiner'. She is reluctant to join in at parties etc.
