I think my boy has discovered how to be naughty today!

Up until now he has been naughty by accident if you see what i mean.
Today however he has been:
1)grabbing my party list out of my hand, stuffing it in him mouth and running away as fast as he can.
2) Having great mouthfulls of water and spitting it out as far as he can, then running off with his cup as fast as he can,
3) tipping cup fulls of bath water over the side of the bath then laughing,
4) climbing onto the coffee table while looking me in the eye,
5) shaking the fire guard as hard as he can while looking at me, while i calmly say "stop that"...and continuing to do it....harder,
6) smaking his play dates around the head, snatching thier toys from thier hands and running off as fast as he can......
Phew.....PURE EVIL
Today he has done stuff with purpose, he has attended the naughty stair on 2 occassions.

OK so, what now, how do i deal with this hideous horror???????????????

23 months!
I have neede emergency chocolate today....im going to be HUGE if this keeps up!
Trouble is, its so hard to stop myself laughing out loud because he is SO comical but i musnt because it defeats the object.
My question is, how come it has just clicked with him today, its not even been a gradual thing!

Welcome to the "terrible twos" club.

The naughty stair - you're better organised than me - I keep meaning to start this and not quite getting round to it. Meanwhile my naughty little boy (my angelic darling son) runs his Mum ragged.

yes, this sounds like the terrible two's, but do you realise it doesn't stop when they turn 3. I have a 3.2 year old to prove it.

They just get cheekier as they get older as they can misbehave and shout/scream at you!

Just put him to bed and he is pounding on his head bourd which is wooden and very noisy) with a tiny plastic cat that he has smuggled into his room...........If im not back here in ten mins~~~~~~~~~~~send in social services.....

10 minutes is up, whats he doing now?
I'm just about to put my 2 little darlings to bed.

He shouting out at the top of his lungs "wobble wobble wobble!" followed by "mummy! mummy! mummy!"
You see! how can you not laugh at that!
He is a BEAST!!!!!

My DS is going to bed in 2 minutes (and counting) but he is currently jumping from one chair to the settee, how he hasn't hurt himself I do not know. An advert just came on the tele and he grabbed his toy guitar and started playing it! It is hard not to laugh when they do something they shouldn't.

Just went in with a stern voice and told him its bed time, wrapped him up again and lay him down.
There is silence now......

Ds is 21 months and does most of those things.

I know, it is SOOOO funny. It feels like he is trying really hard to be as naughty as possible, and wants us to notice this.

I cannot maintain any sort of discipline when dp is around as we just both start laughing.

Naughty step-hmm. I think ds would just get up and wander off!

At 23 months ds is too young to know why he is on it and what it is TBH.
I have used it 2 times today and possibly 3 times in the past couple of months since we identified it as being the "naughty step".
I am keen on maintaining order of some description and so im employing a stern tone of voice so that he knows the difference.
It has just struck me today like a slap in the face that from here on in, its going to be WAR!

"Thankyeeeeuuuwwwww" now from his bedroom~~~~~give me strength!!!!

So its got 1000000 times worse today!
He has been on the naughty stair twice this afternoon.
He launched 2 cars at the bay window, then i told him its naughty...he did it again....marched off to the stair.
He slapped me full on in the face twice.....marched off to the naughty stair.
He hasnt had a sleep at all today and so im expecting much worse.
DH has him downstairs so ive escaped up here for my sanity.
Two friends have been round with thier children and it upsets me that they will think him an evil little monster when he isnt really, honestly.

I can tick most of that list on behalf of ds, same age as yours. Tipping cupfuls of bathwater out is the one that really gets me. But you are right, it's really hard not to laugh, especially when they have that cheeky grin (except when they hit someone else of course).
We've just introduced the naughty step and it definitely had an effect last night.
Does yours get an evil glint in his eye and push you over from sitting saying 'lie down mummy' by any chance? He's so blasted strong!

Just remembered one thing that might be useful (although you probably know this already); my ds definitely understands what 'gentle' means. I've been showing him for some time now, by saying the word and stroking him gently, or touching his teddy softly etc. So when he's getting close to being rough I say 'gentle' and he does slow down. I live in hope that this might help stop him being rough with other children.... although this is probably over-optimistic!

YES! the evil glint is definitely there.

He actually looks me in the eye while doing what he knows he isnt supposed to do!

In actual fact they are very clever aren't they.

They calculate and work things out in their little heads, this shows genious in my humble opinion!

Hm "gentle" is something we have instilled into him from an early age so he does kind of know what this means.
He will approach the child after he has asaulted them and stroke them gently and say "its ok".
This isnt the point though is it!
The thing is, he doesnt go to nursery or play group and certainly doesnt see this behaviour at home so where has it come from.?

God knows where they get it from, must be innate, I think. Apparently it gets much, much worse when boys are around 10ish and testosterone kicks in... oh the things we have to look forward to!

Ahh yes, ds has started some of the same at 22 months. He will climb on the coffee table, all the while saying in a sweet little voice, "Please don't climb on the coffee table"...I don't know whether to laugh or cry

What is it about coffee tables!
he drives me mad climbing on it while looking me directly in the eye!
Yesterday i lost my cool with him and yelled like a bloody banshee, im really ashamed and feel so bad about it. I just didnt know what else to do, i was so frustrated and angry for a split second.
I was actually glad to get out of the door and go to work and that is the first time i have thought that in 2 years. It must have been bad.
I am pre menstrual and so my tether is a bit shorter than usual.
I must try harder not to shout or raise my voice, i need to save that for when things are really bad because the shock value will be more affective i think.
What is awful is that NO adult can get me so mad so quickly and yet this little scrap of nothing can push my buttons with very little effort on his part!

Last night I actually said to him,"OK you are really pushing Mommy's buttons now!"
Dh took over the nighttime ritual for a while and mom went downstairs for a glass of wine and some MN time.
