Hitting, pushing and generally very agressive 2.5 y o

Hi

I know there are so many threads about this but I was wondering if anyone can help me!

DS, 2.5 has been agressive for a long time. He often pushes in the park, nursery and at home with cousins. His hitting can be quite violent sometimes. I just don't know why as we have never hit him but he just seems to feel the need to assert himself constantly. We always tell him 'no' and move him away from subject and give subject symapthy. He knows it's bad because I ask him how nursery was and the first thing he tells me is that he has hit the other boys, sometimes I hear him talking to himself and saying "don't hit kids in the park" so it has been drummed into him but it doesn't make a difference.

Help please!

Hi he is still young at 2.5.If he KNOWS hes not supposed to hit etc as he gets older and more in control of his emotions etc he should start to grow out of it, it sounds like you are doing all the right things

Thanks Fernie, it's actually nice to hear someone say that because although nobody has said anything, I know my family raise eyebrows at his behaviour.

Have you tried giving the little beggar a taste of his own medicine?

I don't agree with Grumpy - why tell your child not to hit and then go and do it yourself? You need to set an example in you home.

Fwiw, my dd is now nearly 3. She was quite aggressive too, would happily start a fight at the drop of a hat. Was also quite physical (would wwf wrestle older children to the floor) and a very busy biter. A morning at toddlers would be a nightmare and I eventually stopped going....

However, fast forward a few months - her speech and understanding have come on loads and she had mellowed into an extreemly loving and gentle girl. She is quite spectacularly well behaved [proud mother emoticon] and is sociable in her little playgroup. DD2 is now 6 months and dd1 is a fab sister.

Remember - he is still so little and hasn't got a hold on his emotions, it's like his brain has finished being wired yet! He will soon change - that's all you can do in the meantime is minimise the damage, keep doing what you are doing (ie saying no, moving him away etc] and he will soon develope and pass this stage.

Oh yes and keep apologising to oter mothers when he whallops their children
