Not walking yet at 17 months - problem?

DS is 17 months now and is yet to start walking. He is crawling around no problem and is now holding on to furniture although reluctantly cruises.

Should I be worried yet?

Not at all!

dd1 was almost 20mths before she walked

ds1 was 16mth and dd2 was 15mths.

He is doing other stuff- crawling etc- he probably just doesn't see the need.

DD only walked at 21 months, and my friend's daughter held out until over 2 (!).

What we were both told was that as long as they were bearing weight (which your DS is if he's standing up and cruising) then there's nothing to worry about.

In DD's case I think it was because her joints were quite flexible (when she sat, she was quite often doing extreme yoga positions...), and getting her some little boots which supported her ankles did help - nothing medical, just from Clarks.

In my friend's case, the consultant's opinion was that at least part of it was because she had much older sisters, so whenever she wanted to get somewhere, there was always someone to carry her.

DD has just started walking unaided at 17months but will often still crawl around outside in the mud. Happy to walk inside though!

DS1 was 20 months
DS2 was 19 months
DD is 13 months now and nowhere near ready yet.

I honestly wouldnt worry yet. He probably just doesnt ant to bother yet.

DD was 22 months when she walked. I wasn't worried but people kept telling me I should be . Have come across loads of 'late' walkers now.
She did atually start seeing a physio as she got referred to one after her 18 month HV check. She had a slightly weak ankle but apparently that didn't really cause the delay- she just didn't fancy walking!

My DD is 20 months and still not walking though she pulls to stand and occasionally cruises around the furniture. She was 'late' with other milestones though...she didnt sit until she was 12 months and crawled at 14 months so I'm not worried.
