How often will a two year old need to wee?

My son loves to wee on his potty, he was t6wo in April. I give him a Thomas the Tank Engine sticker when he does a wee on his potty, which he loves, but the thing is.....

I suspect he is witholding wee to do another 3 minutes later, just to get the sticker! I feel awful for doubting him, and don't show it, I was just curious to know because if he does need to wee every 5 minutes then I think potty training in seriousness is a bit pointless!

Mmmmm, colditz, suspect you might be a bit right there. Does he still have lots of milk, or have you managed to get him to have mainly solids in the daytime? Three minutes sounds a bit often, even for me!

Mainly solids, and there isn't much wee there... but how much ^should he be doing? I am a first time mum so this is my first go at potty training.

How often and how baggy were his nappies, before he started potty training? You should be able to gauge a bit from that. DD2 is 5 now, and you forget so much so quickly. Someone will be along in a min with a younger child ...

It will wear off when the novelty goes

Also it might resurface when you visit a new place eg M&T group, the shops etc

He did seem to have a dry nappy for ages, then suddenly it would be soaked. doh!

can't I just wait until he goes to school?

my dd of 2.9 months can wee ,say 3 times in 15 mins then nothing for 2hours! I would just say nothing for now and give him the sticker till the novelty dies down .My dd wees loads in the morning too .Just stay nice and chilled about it maybe and look at this as him getting used to the potty idea rather than full on potty training ?
That was my aim second time round [after being stressed potty obsessed mum first time round ]

My dd did this and still does sometimes, now 2.5.

I didn't give her rewards so it wasn't even that that she was hoping to get!

As you say, she hangs on until the last possible second, then doesn't empty fully, so goes several more times in a row!
At first she did this so much, i took her for urine test, but all was fine.
I don't comment on it when she does it.
Now she just does this once in a while.

Not sure of reason but don't think its a problem!

think ive made dd too relaxed though - she will whip off her knickers anywhere if she needs to go .Particulary under trees in parks .And she announces it too .The shame .

There is a simple answer to this q:
every time your food gets put on the table in a cafe
every time you get on a bus or tube
immediately the doors close on the London Eye
as soon as a really big queue builds up for the toilet on a crowded plane.

Very sadly i know the answer to this one!(have recently wriiten a reflective essay on nappy rash!)

hi chandra...The article i quoted goes on to say say that they can still be weeing up to eight times a day up to age eight years. (often the less u drink the more u have to wee as urine becomes concentrated and irritates the bladder...) saw ur thread chandra.. and imho i'd be inclined to hang on till after your holidays by which time he will be a little older his brain will interpret the messages from the bladder better and hopefully he will be dry quicker and with less anxiety attached. hth x
