I am really just trying to work out how far behind my DS2 is in terms of his self care. He has ASD and a communication delay, but I think its dawning on me that that isnt the only area he is falling behind in.

Do your DC's dress themselves?
Do Your DC's feed themselves?
What kind of cup do your DC's drink from?
What other self-care tasks can your DC's preform, teeth cleaning, putting on shoes etc.

I was so upset yesterday when I got DS from his new pre-school and the teacher asked the children to put thier coats on and my DS sat there and didnt move, as he didnt understand, but he cant put his coat on anyway

I have a dd who is 2.5 she talks for England, a real gas bag and seems mature in that respect she can't put on a coat though, she will not use any kind of utencil, drinks from a sippy cup as she can't manage an open cup and she tries to put on her trousers but always ends up with both legs in a trouser leg and then will not let me help her!

Shoes (wellies) she can manage.

If the pre school asked my dd to put on her coat she'd probably go and look at the fish tank!

DS 3.3

He can take off trousers and socks but that's it.

He can feed himself with a spoon and with a fork if I stab the stuff first.

He drinks from an open cup but couldn't until he was 2.8

His cleaning teeth is sucking his toothbrush. He wipes the sponge over his body if I ask him to wash himself. He attempts to wipe his mouth after he's eaten but misses quite a lot of it. He can't put his shoes on.

My ASD son was delayed in most areas except feeding and drinking at 2.5 but the other skills did slowly grow over time. He may need more direct instruction and practical help than his NT peers for a longer period of time but don't believe that he will never acquire the skills.
