DS lost all confidence

My ds (almost 8) just went up to Juniors and has gone from being a confident, popular boy to being much less confident and seemingly struggling with friendships. They mixed up his classes and he's no longer with his main friends, although they still mix in the playground - but he's had classes mixed before and it's never been a problem.

He says no-one will pass to him now when they are playing football at playtime. Might sound trivial but it's really upsetting him. He used to love school and now says he doesn't want to go.

The teacher says he is fine and settling in fine to Juniors.

Anyone else had a problem with this transition??

I remember when DD2 went from primary to middle was a bit tricky. She went from being a big fish in a small pond to a teeny fish in a sea. I know it's awful to see our kids go through these wobbly patches but I'm sure things will settle down over the next few weeks. We really feel their pain don't we!

I hate it when they mix up classes. DS has had this and clearly finds it unsettling.

I think you need to pin the teacher down again if you have specific concerns. And especially if he's saying he dosn't wnt to go.

DS also complains that no one will pass to him in football. I think he's just not one of those kids who gets stuck in. Does your boy usually enjoy footbll?

Absolutely. My DS (7) just moved to a school he couldn't wait to go to. After saying for 3 wks all's great, I'm gleaning the lessons are fab but some (most) of the pupils are not. Most have been there since infants and have firm friendships such that he won't go to football because, just as you said, they won't include him in the game - he can't understand it becasue he's never come across such unfriendly/unkind behaviour before.

Today he said he wants to go to another school and it's breaking my heart. I only hope in the next few months it settles down.
