dd (3) said something very strange

hi , we were sitting at our dinner table yesterday eating dinner when dd ( 3.7 ) suddenly said in a very matter of fact kind of tone
" I WANT TO GO BACK TO HOLY GOD "
(sad)
we are catholic but not very religious iykwim
i really am baffled as to why she said this & it is not the first time either , she said this about a year ago when she was only 2.5
is this kind of thing normal for a toddler to say ? it really upset me last night .

Oh, don't worry about it. She does not know what that means, she is too young.

When DS was that age we asked what he wanted to be when he grew up and he answered "a spaceship"

are u sure she is saying holy god?

example: ds1 calls madagascar "man a gas store"

so holy god may mean something completely different!

I agree, she may being saying something different - maybe she's trying to say the name of somewhere where you have been on holiday or visited?

she has never had to deal with anyone dying & i really don't know why she is saying things like this , i told my mum this morning & she told me to take dd to mass

Is your mother very religious? Could she have picked it up from her?

She does not truly understand the concept though, I am sure.

i went into her bedroom 4 times during the night to check on her & give her a kiss , it really upset me ,

why don't you ask her what holy god is, and see what she says to that

yes her grandparents are religious as they get mass EVERY sunday but they dont talk about any thing religious in front of dd , my mum reckons that dd might have picked this up in preschool but she wasn't in preschool last year when she first said it .

Maybe she just wants to go to church.

My DD (4.2)tells us God is in her heart...no idea where she gets it from, but she explained to DS2 God is in all things good, yesterday.

DS2 said "So there is lots of God in Chocolate cake?"

Maybe she has been told somewhere that she was with God before she was born? Or that God sent her to you, babies are blessings, that kind of thing?

DS (nearly 3) often says things like "when I am little I will be a baby" as well as "when I am grown up I will be a big boy".

we were driving in another town with ds1 (3.8) the other day and he suddenly said 'look mummy there's my old house'. (we've never lived in this town and neither have any family members.)
i asked him what he meant and he said ' i used to live there with my grandma before i came to live with you and daddy'
he then went into great detail about what they used to do together, i asked him what she looked like and he said 'not like anyone else, she's not here any more, that's why i live with you.'
it really freaked me out! sometimes i do think that he's been here before.
try not to dwell on it, it's amazing where they pick things up from.

my ds almost choked with laughter (7ys older) when dd said this & he even offered to get a gun & help her go to heaven , lovely maybe its ds i should be taking to mass

but it made me feel terrible to hear my beautiful dd talk like that .

My 2.4yr old dd talks all the time about when she was a man, before she was a baby and she was a big man with a beard and she lived in a little house and grew vegetables and on and on... She also has a best friend called Alex who nobody can see and there's an elephant living in the apple tree outside. Oh and she's going to have a baby girl called Flora but Flora isn't ready yet, she's busy so dd needs to grow up first and then Flora will be in her tummy.

She's very imaginative.

i think i could handle dd talking about past lifes better than her talking about going back to holy god ,

I second the idea about it maybe being a mispronounced or misheard place. A friend of mine's DS kept talking about "Harold" after going to church. She finally realised it was "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Harold be thy name..."

I wouldnt worry about it, toddlers say some odd things, my dd is also 3 and there is a sense of logic developing but still some odd concepts knocking around its an odd time in their mind

After my friends cat died she bought another kitten, we bought a new toy for the new cat, dd was adamant in the shop that we needed to buy two, one to for kittten and one to leave at the mosque (we are muslim) for the cat that died

I thought that she had no idea about death etc but she had obv picked up something and applied her own logic

When my dd was 2.6, we had a strange experience.
We were going to the coast for the day, and just as we were approaching a railway bridge she said 'mummy be careful of the lorry'.
There was no lorry, so I asked her what she meant. She said there was a big lorry with smashed windows. There wasn't.
BUT on the way home, there was. In that exact place.
A huge artic lorry, on its side, with the front window smashed.
Freaked me out!!!!!
She used to have an imaginary friend called Billy, with orange hair and glasses, but he seemed to go away when she was about 3.6

definitely not a mispronounced word she said it as clear as day , " i want to go back to holy god" & when i said but i would be sad forever then , she replied " oh mama you could look u & see me" so she knew heaven was up in the sky , she even told me i could get a new dd ...
i know at her age they have wild imaginations but this has just left me feeling upset iykwim ,

The thing is she only has to have heard in person, on the radio, on the television, in a supermarket etc that people go back to holy God (and you admit to being Catholic so she could have easily picked up on this) and she is repeating it in a way that makes sense to her. My dd (2.4) says all the time that she wishes she could go to our wedding (having seen the pictures), dh said that he was going to send his sister to Coventry and dd started saying she wanted to go to Coventry. They have no idea of permanence or concrete versus abstract so if she thinks God is in heaven, she thinks this is literal and that heaven is literally in the sky and she applies her own logic to it. My dd also says she wants to live in Africa with the elephants and I say that makes me sad to think of her so far away and she says 'oh it's okay, I'll wave'. I'm sure she doesn't really mean it.

my step children are RC and when dss was small he once said,referring to something that happened brfore he was born,"I wasn't there I was playing chess with God"
