I know it's being done before, BUT, DD's just asked how babies get in Mummies tummies....

DD is 3.4 and this morning she was looking at the picture of the baby on the Calpol bottle and then looked at me. She pulled down my top and said, "Me want baby in Mummy's tummy", to which I replied, "Do you darling?", thinking that would be the end of it.

She then looked at me and asked, "How does baby get in your tummy Mummy?. Blimey - she's only three I thought.

Of course I was sensible - and well warned my MN threads of old - and just told her that Daddy puts a seed there that makes an egg grow into a baby.

She seemed satisfied, but I know that she's going to want more at some point. Can anyone help me with the next stage, when she asks how the seed gets there.

You might have a while to wait...dd is 6 in a fortnight, and is still happy with the idea of a wee seed being passed over gently (presumably in her head it's in the palm of his hand- oh I wish!) and me lovely popping it "somewhere".

Babette Cole's book 'Mummy Laid an Egg' is fab for this.

My DD asked the same question at 3 (when her baby brother arrived). Told her it was Daddy's egg and mummy's seed. That satisfied her for ages until she asked "but HOW did the seed get in there". So explained that he put it there with his willy (tmi?) and that satisfied her again. Thought all was done and dusted but then she asked me the whole same thing AGAIN recently (now 4, obviously forgotten), so I said "Daddy's seeds mix with mummy's egg".
To which she responds "Do you need a spoon?".
Ah bless. Think this could take some time...

At least you didn't reply, "Ah, well, some spooning was required".

Penny - had exactly the same conversation with my 4 yo dd last week. Also told her about the willy. And she was fine with it.

I was always totally honest. I just shot from the hip. "you know the hole where babies come out, well the man has to put his willy in there to drop off the seed safely, no you can't see the seed, its too tiny to see"

Take a deep breath, say it quick as though you were discussing the importance of jam on bread.

Buy the DVD series of the life of mammals. Apart from the fact that it's brilliant, there's this fantastic facts-of-life lesson episode where a male whale is trying get his 4metre penis to the right destination

I gave my 7yo some detail after that. His response: "That's disgusting!!"

Just tell her - easy peasy! I did the minimum information thing with DD and she asked me specific questions once or twice. Then when sheas 5 she wanted to know the whole thing so I just told her - no biggie. When I mentioned the seeds 'coming out of a hole in a Daddy's body' she said "urgh, what like a hole in his elbow or something?!"

I thought I had explained in a clear easy to follow manner, but months later ds (4ish at the time) was heard to say 'Gran you live with a man don't you?' To which my mum replied yes, (the 'man' in question is my brother)'Well, do you let him put his seeds down your throat then?'

Wt fucking fuckety f, had he gleaned from my attempt to explain to him?

Fortunatly my mum just found it hilarious.
