From bottle to beaker...

DD about to turn 1 and I keep trying to in vain to get her onto a beaker for her morning and evening milk.

However, I can seem to actually find a beaker that she's able to drink from. I've spent a fortune on a load of fancy ones, but they are IMPOSSIBLE. I've tried it myself and you virtually have to bite down on the spout to get anything out of it.

What exactly is a beaker (as opposed to a 'cup')?

And can you please please tell me what brand your child drinks from?

Sorry this is v dull, but am finding it quite difficult to find something she can actually drink from!

I find Tommee Tippee cups very good, the 'kids on the go' (or KOTG) ones. They have a flip-up spout and the drink pours out so no biting/chomping down on spout required. They don't have handles but my two managed fine from about that age.

I too spent a fortune on Avent Magic cups, all sorts of sippy cups etc but will now stick with Tommee.

I have also been trying every cup under the sun. I spoke to the HV and she suggested just stick with one cup type until the LO is used to it, which makes sense. My DS will use one of the trainer type cups it's sort of half way between the bottle and a cup here, but the non-spill ones are hopeless IMO, even I can't drink out of them (and I have tried ). my ds used them fora ages before he moved onto a straw based cup. They are available i tesco or asda. u still have to suck, but the top is simalarto a bottle so maymakeiteasier for you to move on

DS only had bottles at nursery, and DH mentioned to them we wanted to get him off them and onto cups, so they tried a doidy cup and he took to it really well. It can get messy occasionally but generally works well, we use one for his water at home now as well.

I remember this well and could write reams about different cups, trauma, giving in to the bottle, tears... etc. All I really want to say is that it will happen. Find a cup with a spout that DD can actually drink from and stick at it. Yes you will give in a few times, but it will happen - I promise.
For what it's worth, mine could never get on with the no-spill gizmos, that I have now removed from all the spouts.
(Others will recommend doidy cups but at bedtime that would be messy if she is a lounger.) Good luck.
