Why is it such a fight whenever he has to leave nursery??

Today was DS's 4th day of nursery. Every day so far when we come to pick him up he cries/throws himself on the floor/runs away/clings to his teacher/all of the above.

I have to manhandle him to get his shoes on. Forget about a jacket. Today I dragged him out in the rain without one because I couldn't get it on him.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad he's enjoying it and frankly, I'd rather he not want to leave than not want to go there in the first place but...

Is it going to get better? Has anyone else been through this?

I can't help you I'm afraid but my dd has a massive tantrum every time we leave anywhere. Doesn't matter how long we have been there or where we are, the park, a party, nursery, cafe. She seems to be the only one to do this and I'm getting so fed up with it, to the extent that I dread going anywhere just because of when its time to leave I know we are going to have a battle! Sorry I can't help but hope somebody can give us some advice! She's 3 by the way.

ok this could be utter bollocks as I only have a 14month old son but could it be that young children very much live in the moment, so they know they love their mummy but right now they are in a very new and exciting place with lots of children to play with and therefore THEY DONT WANT TO GO HOOOMMMMEEEEE!

I am sure it's just a stage, and the nursery staff have seen it all before so I would just smile sweetly and drag him out

I found that warning helped.. "we're going in 10 minutes" "we're going in 5 minutes" "time to get shoes on now" (about 2 mins before)...etc.

Seemed to give DS the time he needed to think about the change that was about to happen and reduced the tantrums.

DS is only 2 though...

DS is usually a PITA when I come to collect him. He goes into hyper mode and runs around like a loon/won't put his shoes on/ hides in the toilet/if I do get him out the door he heads for the play equipment etc etc. He's always done it, but he's harder to catch now (He's 2.6 and I'm 31 wks pg!)

I entice him out the gate with offer of juice and a biscuit...usually works...

Same here aand mine is 3, been in nursery two years and has only just started doing it. Transitions are always hard. Do you always come at the same time? Could you remind him what that time is, eg after snack, before messy play or whatever? Can you arrive and then wait for 5 mins to give him a chance to come in his own time? And finally, a small treat in your pocket might help, or a special treat on the way home. Don't feelbad, it's completely normal when you think about it, not that he doesn't love you but the sudden change is really hard.
