Neither saying 'yes' nor nodding head 'yes'

I am probably a little paranoid having DS2 who was slow to speak, but DS3 is a bit of a worry to me.

At 2.5, he is very verbal, speaking from a young age and you can hold a proper conversation with him (not boasting,just happy because it took DS2 so long to reach that point).

However, he does not answer yes. Example, I changed the tv channel from Mr Maker to something else and he said 'Where's Mr Maker? I want Mr Maker please.' I said ' Do you want Mr Maker?' and he said 'I want Mr Maker please'. This is typical of how he gives an affirmative response. He does say no and shake his head and he speech and language development is normal apart from this.

Is this something I should mention to Ds2's SALT or will DS3 just pick it up?

He'll pick it up. My DS has just been seen by a salt (this week) and he speech was assessed as normal with no speech therapy needed. He used the word "yes" at just gone 3. It will come!

Yes is a bit bland and undramatic, isn't it? Not half as expressive as a good "NO", or fun like shaking your head from side to side, or a command like "I want.....".

DS (2y+3m) has just started nodding his head for yes, and going ehhm-mm but still won't say the word. Quite happy to shout out NO though.

mmm I wonder if he is doing what TPTs DD did. As he'll often say no, then when I don't give him for eg a juice he'll start pointing and getting agitated. But then again when I offer a juice to his lips he'll turn his head and say no. They're tricky to work out aren't they?

Thanks for all the replies. Like I said, DS2 was delayed with all aspects of speech so have forgotten what the 'normal' pattern of speech development is like. You'd think I would remember from DS1 - so much for remembering your PFB's milestones
