9 wks old - could she really be teething?

My sweet natured DD has turned into a moany little madam over the last few days and despite doing all the things she loves (and at 9 wks, there's not that many), she has been irritable and unhappy pretty much the whole day.

I wondered if there is a chance that she could be teething - she seems to be showing a lot of the signs; drooling, chewing her hand, gagging and coughing.

I know she won't cut a tooth as such but could this be things moving around, do you think? If so, this should all pass in a few more days, maybe?

Don't all 9 week old babies dribble and chew their hands? I have never heard of teething in one so young. Could she just be hungry?

She could well be teething. Some babies are born with teeth. They'll come through when they're ready so might be sooner than you think.

The teethers that you put in the fridge are good to soothe sore gums.

Cybil - It feels as though she is doing this far more than before as she was never really a dribbly baby...having said that, maybe she is coming into her drool, so to speak!

LBB - Thanks for this...I am due to see the nurse on Thursday and will definitely speak with her about it...just didn't want to look like a panicky first mum if it was unheard of!

My DS did this at about 9 weeks, I was convinced there were teeth coming through. He's now 19 weeks and still gummy.
He does have days where his mouth does seem to be hurting him, so, like you, I think maybe the teeth are getting ready to come through. Dentinox works well for us to numb the gums, and it's suitiable from birth. The teething rings that go in the fridge are great, as is this

DS liked having his gums rubbed, and he now likes chewing on the plastic corners.

I now know that babies can teeth that early and for months. My DS started teething at 10 weeks and got his 2 bottom teeth - together - at 7 months. Skillbo, I would have plenty of bibs to hand for DD, and ear plugs for you . I thought I was slowly going mad with the whinging from DS all day every day. It will pass though.

My dd1 got her first tooth at 10 weeks and it bothered her a lot.

But both the others also dribbled and chewed hands, and didn't get one till 5 or 6 months!
