i'm too scared to start potty training pls help

this sounds a bit odd but i potty trained my dd1 when she was 2 1/2 and she still has issues with toileting. my dd2 is now 2 and a bit and as its the summer it would be the logical time to do it but i'm not sure i can face another go at this when i so blatantly failed to get it right the first time. i know i'll have to ditch the nappies eventually but is it really bad to leave it til she's nearer 3? i used every book under the sun btw the 1st time

You need to gauge when your DD is ready to embrace ditching the nappies, so I'd start talking about it and hyping up knickers etc for a few weeks before actually starting toilet training. If she seems keen and eager to ditch the nappies go for it, if she is indifferent or actually resists then leave it for a bit longer.

I don't think the potty police are in your area at the moment, so you should be fine

Try not to stress about this Wait until you are both ready. It isn't mentioned on your CV when you were potty trained!

you could start introducing a potty, and then putting her on it at changing times, or if she request, after a few weeks of sucessfulling using the potty, you could move off into pants

i've been introducing it in a low key way for ages but not using rewards or anything cause that's where everything seemed to go wrong last time just if she uses it great if she doesn't that's fine too. i was thinking of abandoning nappies when we are on the beach next week but i am not sure she really ready her language/understanding of it all isn't there yet i think. ikwym CybilLiberty about the potty police! I was so hung up about what other people were telling me last time i think i blew the whole thing way out of proportion

she doesn't know beforehand that she needs a wee but sometimes she sits on potty or toilet and a wee happens so i think i want to wait until she can tell me before i make the leap to pants. thanks everyone
