Potty training driving me nuts - aaaargh

DS2 was 3 last month, have made several attempts to potty train him since May, but he just doesn't care where he wees or poos! This morning he said "I need the potty", sat down, did a poo, loads of praise & reward. This pm, piddled on the carpet with the potty in the same room. Thwe other day, pood in his pants while standing next to the blardy potty. He just doesn't give a monkey's!! DS1 took himself out of nappies before 2 years! Don't know whether to give up again, or what!

We had the same problem with DD, she wasn't interested at all didn't seem to notice when she had peed, with a lot of help from a nursery nurse we have got there but she was 3.3 when she finally realised what to do. I was having a chat with the Doctor about it as well and she said that 10% of children aged between 3 and 4 have problems as they have no emotional attachment to the process.

We also gave up put in nappies when she started to regress, as the constant washing was awful and getting us both stressed and eventually she refused nappies.

My dd is the same she is 2.5 just put her in pants, she does wee in her pants does not acknowledge it or seem interested. I will just keep going until it just clicks and falls into place. Costagirl my friend put her 3 year old son in pullups when he went to nursery, he saw other children his age using the toilet and decided there and then that he did not want to have a nappy and started to use the toilet and pants. Dont worry, just keep putting him in pants, dont scold or tell him off, just remind him that the toilet/potty is there if he needs a wee/pooh. Praise him when he has done a wee/pooh in potty and make a big fuss like flushing wee wee down the loo together and giving a treat like a chocolate button or something he likes. hope this helps a bit.

Glad it's not just me! We'd been putting it off with ds2, suspecting he'd be a nightmare (after dream potty-training with ds1), but the nursery persuaded us to try about a month ago (he's 2.7). The first couple of weeks were not too bad; I think it was a bit of a novelty. Then we got him his reward - new bike, which he'd been desperate for, and since then it's been a blardy disaster. Like your ds costagirl, he just doesn't seem in the least bit interested in whether he does it in his pants or on the toilet. I suspect when he's busy doing other things he just can't be bothered to tear himself away. We had such a bad weekend that I was on the verge of putting him back in nappies for a couple of weeks and taking the bike away, but today's been much much better, so hopefully he'll get the hang of it before I lose the will to live.
