Just curious...what's normal at this age?

Have no idea what's normal.
My 4 yr old twin dd today has had probrably 4 very brief strop/crying yell about her 2 brothers or having to stop doing something today.I mean 30 seconds worth at most though.
Also one proper cry requiring cuddles about hurting herself.
If she's tired or she's on the school run it can be much much longer.
My 4 yr old twin ds2 has had 3 strops today about not wanting to go out, his sister stealing his toy and his daddy being cross with him- real tears about that one, but he was tired by then.
He's generally a little more dramatic but far less angry/stroppy really.
It does depend on personality/lack of sleep/time of day/hungry/boredom and so on.

Think ds has on average one strop a day. More if tired.

I was watching kids of different ages at the park today and wondering how much strops tail off with age which was what made me ask. Have/ had no idea as to whether ds was typical or not.

At least once each typical day. Worse if she's tired or if it just so happens that things aren't going her way that day.

Dd is 3.5yo, 4 in Feb.

About 3-4/5 times a day!

I thought the terrible two's were bad

thegrammerpolice · 03/08/2009 22:58

Sleep and food are central with ds that's for sure.
I suspect if he had a sibling to fight with and fight for attention with there would be even more strops.

Hmm I would say my 4 yo DD has a strop as soon as she gets up and unless I can catch the 2nd or 3rd in time it'll last most of the day on and off. Depends on whether she can wind DS up enough for it to continue or whether I banish her to the bottom of the stairs.

That's probably a lie I imagine she does a few times a day, about 4 out of 7 days a week. Although she does winge a hell of a lot about nothing.

DD is 3.10 and has about 3 or 4 strops a day. Generally she gets cross and then calms down pretty quickly. Depends whether DS is goading her as to how many there are.

I don't mind hers too much -it is DS who tends to simmer along for longer that I find more painful.
