DS can't lift himself up yet - at 7 months.

DS hated tummy time as a baby so I tried it but didn't push it. He is 7 months next week and can sit up very well unaided, so naturally now wants to lean right over, almost like he will crawl - except, when he inevitably falls over from that position, he just lays there with his arms out and doesn't even try to lift himself up. He can't roll on his front either. I should have pushed the tummy time more but thought it would all just come naturally. I feel awful.

dd4 is doing exactly what you say at almost 9months.

its a thing they have to learn. in the last week she has managed to balence and lean right over and sit back up, and can scoot backwards on her tummy

oh and she has rolled over twice. the first time was ages ago, a couple of months at least. she is quite happy

Try not worry. My Ds hated tummmy time too! He basically sat and refused to move until 10mths then learnt to crawl, pull up, cruise, walk and crawl in the following 6 weeks!

If your really concerned speak to your HV but if he is anything like my Ds he will suprise you one day soon!

DD did the same thing until he was about 11 months and then still hated being on his front until he crawled at 13 months although he walked before that. Some babies just really hate it, but don't worry as he will get strong enough to do it soon and then will be off!!

Thanks . I guess it's just peer pressure and as a first time mum, I get alot of "oh isn't he doing XYZ yet". My neice who is 2 weeks older than DS is bloody breakdancing if my SiL is to be believed.

don't stress ds is 8 months and he can sit but not well enough to be left as he still has wobbles and he has no intention of getting on all fours or even pushing himself up on his arms. All lo's move at different rates and believe me compared to my others ds is about 4 months behind but stress i won't, he will catch up and i knwow i will be stressing then

dd2 didn't even roll at this stage. she never crawled, either. she bum-shuffled.

ds is 9 months and just started to crawl.

HarryB - i'm a nursery nurse and thought i should be able to get my Ds to do it! . But if it had been a parent at work i would have reassured them its very very normal. Strange how all motherhood turns us it to worriers isn't it.

i actually had a wobble a few weeks ago after dd4 8month check and her just sitting there.

but as dh says, dd4 has it made, all she has to do is wimper and one of the other dd's come running to get whatever she wants lol

misdee i totally agree with Peter, whenever O is led on the floor playing both dd's are there at the slightest noise even if it is a squeek of excitement, I'm sure dd's would eat for him if it was possible

My daughter did NOTHING but sit until she was 11 months old, when she pushed herself into a sitting position and rolled over for the first time. A month later, she walked (and after that crawled).

They all have their own programme.
