Out for a walk today. My ds threw an absolute wobbler because the flock of seagulls on the seafront had the sheer audacity to fly off when he chased them.

He then proceeded to fill the front of his sandals with sand, looked up at me as if I was responsible for this horrendous crime screaming at the top of his voice "Mummygetitout'! Mummygetitout!"

was not sure wether to piss myself with laughter or be embarrased.

puffylovett... well obviously you store it somewhere safe until miniPuffylovett decides he wanted it back...silly!

funtimewincies · 04/08/2009 20:15

meep - ds ALWAYS decides that he needs a hug NOW while I'm driving, shouting 'I need a big cuddle, I'm sad' and thereby ensuring the maximum amount of parental guilt and blood-pressure raising stress in the shortest possible time.

Getting dressed is our main tantrum provoker
DD: Wanna wear a pretty dreeeesss!! No not that, this one.
I put on the selected outfit
DD: No, no like it not that one this one
and repeat until I give up and take a person in a fairy dress, wings and wellies to the supermarket

Then start on mummy
DD: Mummy you gonna wear a pretty dress?
me: I thought I might just wear these jeans since its raining
DD: No, no you wear this pretty skirt
Shivering in the rain in inappropriate summer skirt 1hr later I wonder if that battle was one worth fighting

wuglet · 04/08/2009 20:33

Oh god where to start....
Today DD has tantrummed because...

"I want to go in the back of the (double) pram!"

"I want to be at the front of the pram!"

"I don't want to go in the pram"

"I'm too tired to walk carrrrreeeeee meeeeeee!"

"Stop the wind blowing me"

  • and that was all on a 20 min walk to a friend's house!

Her favourite thing to wail about at the minute is most evenings when she is tired and ratty demanding "why don't we live in a castle I want to live in a CASTLE!"

waitingforbedtime · 04/08/2009 20:56

funtimewincies my ds does that too ' mummmmyyyyy I need a cuddle, I love you' whilst driving at 70mph!

17mo simply MUST turn off the bathroom light after washing hands, and put back his toothbrush or sudocreme after use. He's quite a particular wee gentleman.[solemn emoticon]
I think I get off lightly compared to you lot and your broken banana issues!

puffylovett · 04/08/2009 21:22

Miamla - I've decided I need a very special place in the car for potential demands !

We get the driving ones too. On the way home from nursery - where's the man, mummy, I want it (dropped by DS) I NEED it NOW till like meep, I had to pull over. Usually followed by a tantrum because we haven't seen a tractor on the way home, mummy didn't drive the right way . Then, to top it off - he refuses to get out the car when we get home, because he doesn't want to be at home, he wants to stay in the car. Grrr

This evening, he had a 10 minute paddy because I flushed the loo after he pooed. and god forbid I should even attempt to wipe his bum !

LOL at mamadoc I was ROFLing last night and again this evening, catching up with this thread.. is soooo good to know we're not alone ! (and also great to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's hilarious

Daffodilly · 04/08/2009 21:25

Because ice cream is cold
Because bear's hands are not properly tucked in the duvet at bedtime
Because she can [have a tantrum]

KleineMaus · 04/08/2009 23:19

DS is now 3 and has largely grown out of major tantrums (apart from when he's ill), but recently we went on holiday and had to drive for hours with him wailing 'can we go home now, can we go home now, can we go home..' And then on the way home it was 'not want to go home yet, not want to go home yet, not want...'

Also, and this is a baffling and frustrating one he's taken to saying 'can we go home now' when we are at home, and when I point this out to him he says 'not not this home, my other home, this isn't my favourite home' and gets upset. Very strange. I started to wonder if he has a past life he remembers. Spooky.

This morning DD1 had a tantrum because I went to the bathroom before her.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 05/08/2009 08:04

DS2 is well nto th delightfull tantrum stage at the moment, this week we have had,

DS1 dared to look at him

DS1 dared to talk to him

The Cat squawked becasue he picked her up by her neck

His straw dared to be green and not blue

His milk dared to drip out his cup

Pretty much everything results on him flinging himself on me sobbing "i waaannnnnt aaaa h h h h h hhhhuuuggggggg!"

So much fun!

"Look after me....look after MEEEEE....mummy look after me"

"We are looking after you darling"

"Oh"

"Look after me....look after MEEEEE....mummy look after me"

Then when I finally get slightly riled:

"I love you mummy"

difficultdecision · 05/08/2009 09:29

at 19m DS is a fairly reasonable, placid toddler (it is all to come I know) unless...

  1. I dare to try and take him inside after we've been out rather than for a run around the garden first (great when it is raining)

  2. Anyone leaves their shoes out. Mummy and Daddy's get put away neatly (bless) with lots of shouting at us and visitors are presented with theirs.

and the ultimate tantrum inducer?

an in-bath poo experience! Mummeeeeee! Noooooo! no no no no no!

Wonderstuff · 05/08/2009 09:33

Total melt down last night because I put her duvet back on her when she woke up at 4.30am. Duvet and pillow were thrown across the room.
The joys!!

meep · 05/08/2009 09:48

dd1 had a tantrum because she wanted her shadow to go away "no shadow noooooooooooooo"

Had to stand in a shady patch in the park for 10 minutes until she calmed down

Tee2072 · 05/08/2009 10:01

I do not yet have a toddler, DS being not quite 2 months, but I am putting in my bid to make this thread a MN classic! That way it will be easy to find in 2 or so years when he does throw a wobbly over that broken banana!!

LOL at meep again !!

This morning, I dared to get out of MY OWN BED on the wrong side....

And last night, we had to put up and take down his crocodile picture about 10 times before he would go to sleep

MrsJamin · 05/08/2009 11:06

Loving these, it's like looking into the future with 19 MO DS. Recent highlights have been

  • getting home after a day at the CM's - a big wobbly on the step and forcing him inside.
  • not letting him put his shoes in the bath.
  • a duplo man in a car constantly falling out MAAA MAAA (he doesn't do ends of words).

Weirdest one was when he was screaming in his cot at night, refusing to go to bed, pointing to something in his room. Got him out of his cot, he picked up a duplo car and put it in the duplo container, then calmed down.

chocolaterabbit · 05/08/2009 11:17

Had some good ones today:

DD (2) woke at 4.30 so DH sat with her being wonderful. She fell asleep on the floor at 5.30 so DH put her back to bed. Cue epic tantrum with

'I not want Daddy I want mummy, I tired I not want to go to bed'.

Not later enough this morning ' I not want nappy' closely followed by a wee on the carpet which caused another meltdown. Slightly later 'I not want to get dressed'. She has gone to the CM in her nightie.

Usually we have an argument about breakfast. I give her milk and toast, she throws it away. She wants milk and toast. She steals my cornflakes by putting her grubby fist in my cereal bowl. I then get to eat the toast she has thrown on the floor by having it shoved into my mouth. Yum.

She cannot be put in her carseat. She can climb in and do it herself. If I look as though I might either help or request a bit of speed she has to start again.

The oddest one recently is trains. She loves trains but has decided she is scared of diesel. Every time we go over the level crossing near our house there are wails about not wanting to see diesel. DH is no longer allowed to say that he has to ride on that diesel to get to work.

Such fun!

LissyGlitter · 05/08/2009 11:26

Yesterday my 16 year old sisters friend came round to go somewhere with said sister. This friend once babysat DD, so DD is now obsessed with her.

First it was a tantrum because the poor girl didn't come in to play with DD immediately - "where's my friend? I want my friend! Mummy, please!"

Then when the girl had come in and said hello to DD and left to go and do whatever 16 year olds do nowadays, it was a tantrum because the friend hadn't magically known that DD had wanted her to eat some cake and might be hungry.

I look after DD every single day and I never get this level of concern!

wolfear · 05/08/2009 14:14

My mum has come over from Australia to visit us - she's only met DS (2) a couple of times. If she dares even look at him sideways it's NO Nanny, No!! Poor mum

Geez they're embarrassing.
