Out for a walk today. My ds threw an absolute wobbler because the flock of seagulls on the seafront had the sheer audacity to fly off when he chased them.

He then proceeded to fill the front of his sandals with sand, looked up at me as if I was responsible for this horrendous crime screaming at the top of his voice "Mummygetitout'! Mummygetitout!"

was not sure wether to piss myself with laughter or be embarrased.

Daring to suggest bathtime.....
Daring to ask DS to come to bathroom...
Daring to try to undress DS...
Daring to try and take DS socks off... ("No, meeeee do it...")
Daring to try and help DS into the bath... ("No, meeeee do it...")

Etc etc, repeat ad nauseum, until little shit darling is in bed.

(Breathe.....)

Thank you so much for this thread - DS2 (just turned 2)is the KING of tantrums but I'm now reassured that it's normal after all. DS1 wasn't so bad tho this reminded me of the 'broken banana' which he used to go mad about - and whether he wanted it with the skin peeled back or completely removed: "NO PUT IT BACK IN!!!" after i'd completely removed it.

Anything can start DS2 off - but particularly getting into the buggy/car seat etc. Holding hands to cross the road, satsumas - whichever way they are given to him is always wrong. Any hint that you might possibly help him with anything "NO HELP NO I DO IT" particularly if it's something he can't do on his own!

puffylovett · 05/08/2009 17:51

\Lol chocolaterabbit, your DD and my DS are twins seperated at birth

funtimewincies · 05/08/2009 19:19

We have the 'no, that way' strop most days, especially if I dare to take the 'wrong' exit off a roundabout.

Had a strange one today...
Me: Would you like a drink of water
Ds: Yes, want some water please.

I get a beaker of water.
Ds: Tip it there.
Me: Where?
Ds In the sink, help me tip it there.
Me: So you don't want the drink and want me to tip it down the sink.
Ds: Yes. In there.

Sigh and comply with request. I put the beaker on the worktop which causes a complete meltdown and screams of 'I WANT A DRINK OF WATER'.

Have I had my 1-2 units this week yet ?

NewDKmum · 05/08/2009 19:33

If you have 2 dc's at that stage - do they take turns? Mine seem to - when one is tantrumming, the other is very quiet, but then take over when the first one has run out of steam...

DD1(3)

  • because I said 4 straws in one cup were enough, but she wanted 5...
  • because she wanted to wear yesterday's clothes again and I hadn't washed them
  • she couldn't go on her bike to visit grandparents (app 100 miles)

DD2(nearly 2)
-"Apple" - complete meltdown when handed an apple

BlueBumedFly · 05/08/2009 19:39

DD today on the way to nursery

DD: no nursery!
me: hmmmm?
DD: no nursery!
me: really? (driving at this stage)
DD: Mummy drive faster and faster!
me: really? sorry DD
DD: no man! (some random walker)
DD: no car! (god forbid, another car on the road)
DD: no bridge! (beats swimming across)
DD: NURSERY NURSERY YEY NURSERY!!!!! NURSERY MUMMY LOOK I SEE IT YEY!

pass the wine someone please

BlueBumedFly · 05/08/2009 19:40

Oh and her new faves are:

Stamping Foot whilst yelling 'I did not!' to anything

Stamping foot whilst yelling 'I not want it! to anything

and my personal fave 'Leeb it alone Mummy!'

hmmmm, wonder who she gets that one from...

daisy99divine · 05/08/2009 21:56

lol at the snow and the "ridiculous" suggestion of sand as a substitute!

LittleRedBook · 05/08/2009 22:09

this thread is fabulous and makes me feel better!

DS (2.3), while having his turn on the swings at the playground, points at other children using other equipment, and goes nuts shouting and pointing "No girl/boy [delete as appropriate]! MY Swing / slide/ sandpit [delete as appropriate]. GO AWAY GIRL /BOY [delete as appropriate] MIIIINNNE!!!!" By this time he is purple in the face with snot and tears everywhere. Still swinging in his swing all the while.

hideous.

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 05/08/2009 23:11

These are fab

raggedtrouseredphilanthropist · 05/08/2009 23:18

oh these are fab! makes me realise I am not the only one sharing a house with a totally irrational being.

this morning he was upset cos I had the audacity to put his cereal in his bowl for him. Then, there weren't enough cheerios. Then he wanted cocopops instead. So, horror or horrors, I put some cocopops in with the cheerios!!

I told him I had enough and was going back to bed. at which point he decided he wanted the cereal after all, but I left him to it and came back a couple of minutes later to find cheerios all over the floor and him wanting more cocopops.

raggedtrouseredphilanthropist · 05/08/2009 23:22

oh yes, and waking up in the night, trying to get in bed with me 'I don't want nighttime! want daytime'

PortAndLemon · 06/08/2009 14:18

The hugest tantrum DS ever had was when he was a little over two and erupted on the way to nursery. It was something to do with an elephant (this being the only word discernible through his howls). We hadn't seen any elephants. We hadn't discussed elephants. There are not normally any elephants on the way to nursery. He didn't even have any elephant toys. I still have no idea what elephant-related act I had unconsciously perpetrated .

Many of these others do sound familiar, though.

NormaSknockers · 06/08/2009 15:24

DD: Look at that car.
Me: That's a train pickle.
DD: No it's a car.
Me: No DD it's a train.
DD: No it's a CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!
Me: Ok, ok it's a car
DD: NOOOOO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT'S NOT A CAR, IT'S NOT A CAR, IT'S A TRAIN, IT'S A TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN (screaming so hard her face turns red!)

Mon13 · 06/08/2009 15:36

Because the tiny snail didn't want to walk the way DD wanted and disappeared inside the house when nudged... (Mummy's fault of course!?)

Because mummy dared to enter DD's room to put washing into the wardrobe while daddy read a bedtime story...

Because mummy would only allow two squirts of foamy soap for hand washing, and not 10+ (Serves me right for buying the stuff)

Because mummy did not want to do a wee on the toilet on demand for DD's entertainment...

By the way, how come mummy is the nasty one all the time and daddy is a god?

funtimewincies · 06/08/2009 16:49

Mmm, I agree Mon13, we've got into a silly routine where Daddy does the bedtime story but Mummy comes in to do the unpopular 'right, lie down and go to sleep now...no we don't take cars into bed...you've only just had a drink...GO TO SLEEP, etc.'

I made dh do it last night while I went on MN .

smileyrachel · 06/08/2009 16:55

because after he had eaten all the chips off my plate, I took one off his plate. Can't fault the logic

missbunnypenny · 06/08/2009 17:59

My 19 month old DD had a major head-banging-on-the-floor hissy fit when I tried to do up the button (singular!) on her pyjamas one evening...

Or the head-banging-on-the-hard-ceramic-tiled-floor of the shopping centre when I picked her up to go in the direction we needed to and put her down when she wanted 'down'...

Can't win can we!

Bensmum76 · 06/08/2009 18:31

I'm sure my DS (21 months) has OCD. He screams if we do anything for him ,then when we try to undo what we've done so he can do it himself, he screams again!
This afternoon has been very difficult with both of us in tears as feel I can do nothing right for him and am exhausted with talking constantly and having to explain everything I do and try to help him understand why some things have to happen!!! Aaaarrrrggghhhhh!!

funtimewincies · 06/08/2009 18:38

Your boy is destined for great things smileyrachel !

missbunnypenny · 06/08/2009 19:03

Oh, and we've just had the pyjama incident again... though, to be fair, there was a nappy and 3 buttons involved this time... rolls eyes

savagepearl · 06/08/2009 20:25

BENSMUM76 your ds sounds just like my dd (just 2). I am bloody exhausted explaining every little action and putting up with 10 minutes screaming for any assisstance I do or do not give. I can not win!

Screamed at getting dressed this morning.

Screaming and crying when I dragged her off the dining table she was trying to climb at her grandad's house earlier.

Cried when it was time to leave grandad's.

Screamed when it was time to go shopping (never really found out why).

Putting her shoes on resulted in a screaming session this morning.

Screamed enormously at soft play when she wanted to climb UP the slide where other kids were zooming down towards her.

Cried cos she wanted to go see some ducks on way home from soft play (there are no ducks on way home from soft play!!!).

This evening screamed cos I wouldn't put her shoes on right before we were about to eat dinner.

Cried when I offered to help her with her yogurt for dessert, even though she asked for help.

Screamed when it was bath time.

Screamed when I brushed her teeth in the bath.

Screamed when I removed her from the bath.

That sums up our day.... gotta love toddlers although I do feel my dd is a little extreme and getting a bit down about it.

llynnnn · 06/08/2009 20:30

because the ladybird that landed on her arm and became her 'best friend' had the audacity to fly away,
just got over this tantrum then she found another 'best friend' ladybird which flew away, cue another tantrum! repeat x100 all the way home!!

PollyPoo · 06/08/2009 22:01

I am crying laughing at these... its great to know I am not alone

DD was 2 last week. Lately we've had...

  • Bampy (my dad) put too much milk in her cereal. Cue end of world.
  • Refusing to eat breakfast unless wearing two hats (I don't even know how that started). It took me days, and lots of stuff thrown on floor before I figured out what she was screaming about. (Vocab not really there yet - lots of pointing and screaming ' mine, mine, mine')
  • The dog barked. (was in another room - not next to her!)
  • Refusing to give her whatever I'm eating/drinking - doesn't matter what it is, doesn't even matter if its something she doesn't like.
  • The dog dared to lie within a foot of DD's puzzle on the floor.... hissy fit followed, head banging on the floor. The dog left the room, and I don't blame her.

I'm not sure that laughing is wise, it seems to make her worse, but sometimes its impossible not to. I LOVE this age - what on earth goes on in their little heads?!! I'm just grateful we don't have problems with broken bananas

MamaMaiasaura · 06/08/2009 22:11

Red tractor at zoo today tooted to him, therefore it was his tractor and wanted to follow it. Unfortunately his legs are too little and mummy wasnt going to chase it
